Why would the Stars agree to a trade that makes their team so much worse?

Explain, I agree Marner’s value is low and Toronto doesn’t have much leverage but how much worse does it make Dallas?

Harley alone is worth a late 1st. Marner isn’t getting 2x 1st and a 2nd with no retained salary. No chance.

Surely Harley is worth more than that. 6'4, 15 goals, 47pts, +28, at the age of 22.
