Ehlers is a Blue

Created by: JMSTL2019

Description
Just an idea, don’t roast me Jets fans. Most forums suggest a prospect and late first/2nd rounder for Ehlers. WPG receives picks #16 and #48 from STL. Yes I know WPG would ask for more considering STL is a division rival. Blues need more shooters and Ehlers would fit into the age range Army wants to build around.

They'll say this isn't enough but in reality it's plenty

Considering he’s only had 3 full healthy 82 game seasons in his career it should be enough. Seems to disappear in the playoffs too.

Its not the value of it that's off. WPG can get cap space other ways and the picks don't help win now - u could argue they could be trade chips but why add an extra step. I'd rather re-sign Ehlers is this was the only offer.

U don't usually become a better team when trading a pending UFA

Well in this case, WPG is trying to get better and if they can't, they just extend their good player.

They could and honestly probably should, but reports suggest that's not what they're trying to do

Probably zero chance the Jets are looking for pure futures. It would need to be a hockey trade for a top 4 RHD or 2C with term or team control.

Might be interesting spot for a 3/way deal, picks end up somewhere they are needed, and possibly topped up by Winnipeg to find that rhd dman that they are after, and ehlers to st.louis. Possibly Columbus and st.louis could end up with a retained laine to boot, and really mess with Winnipeg if it works, reuniting the bromance.

I think our forward core is fine for the most part

I’d rather focus on the defense

Hard pass. He's great but not reliable, not a need (Snuggs will be up soon enough) and I'd like to use those considerable assets to address actual needs. Plus, you've overpaid.

What this accomplishes:
Helps our secondary scoring short term.

What this does to hurt us:
Takes away cap space and assets to fix the defense near term.
Takes away cap space for us to find a suitable 2C

Leaves our defense extremely small and defensively challenged.

If Buch is traded somewhere would you circle back to Ehlers then? He’s slightly younger and would demand as much with a new deal.

If Buch went, I would not want Ehlers, no. I'd splurge on Konecny way before thinking about Ehlers. And I'd probably not splurge on Konecny, either.

Nope - don't like this. Keep the picks.
