Description
Trying to ice a better team, not going for playoffs, just want to start an upward trend, and develop the young guys under a better culture.

Couture comes back healthy/Makes an effort - I think he will at least try

Line 1: Debrusk - Couture - Smith
- Debrusk grabbed by San Jose, could be a player that Grier likes, not flashy but great on both sides of the puck, young enough to fit our timeline. Couture turns the corner on his injury, and comes back to be the mentor we need. Play Smith on the wing should be easier for him to acclimate this way. Smith starts up here, could be sent down and replaced by Arvidsson.

Line 2: Lund Line
- Our best line last season, see if they can continue their chemistry.

Line 3: Bordeleau - Celebrini - Arvidsson
- This line would be fun. Start Celebrini against 3rd line opponents to better help him transition into the NHL. Keep Bordeleau around, has a pretty good upside. Celebrini as 3c goes without saying. Arvidsson could be a potential signing if teams are scared due to his injury history, could probably be moved to Line 1 as well, just wanted to try to balance it out as best I could.

Pairing 1: Ferraro - Hronek
- A much better first pairing than last season. Let Hronek be our number 1 for a few years, pair him with Ferraro. Not a bad pairing there.

Pairing 2: Mukhamadullin - Rutta
- It’s time for Muk to start his season in the show, I was on the fence about going out to get a different RD, but I think Rutta is the perfect pairing for him. Defensive defenseman and will be able to help the rookie out.

Pairing 3: Thrun - Emberson
- Young pairing both with some upside. From what I remember before Emberson was injured, they were good together. Emberson was also easily our 2nd best defenseman when he was healthy. This will be a fun pairing to watch.

One issue that may come up is a log jam, but I think that this is not an issue:
First The "Most Likely" Long-Term Players on this Roster:
- Forwards: Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Zetterlund, Debrusk
- Defense: Ferraro, Hronek, Mukhamadullin

That leaves easily 4 spots in our top 9 of forwards, and 3 defensemen. Not every single one of our prospects will work out, and even some in this lineup here will not work out. All these signings and additions do is better the culture, and create a situation where the kids have to compete for their lineup spot. They will not just be gifted one.

  1. Hronek, Filip [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Grier makes his first purchase - First pair RD, doesn't want to spend a 1st. Only way I really see him going out and buying is if it is a deal like this.

Picks are 33oa, 42oa.

If value is way off, I obviously want to discuss!
VAN
  1. Gushchin, Daniil
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (NJD)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Canucks fans: Gushchin is a really solid player. Lighting up the AHL, but with the highest end prospects it just seems that he doesn't have a fit on SJ.

Is he a future 50 goal scorer? No, but he could be a phenomenal depth player. Has that 45 point potential as a 3rd liner.

Has a lethal shot. Just seems like Bordeleau will be the future 3LW or C in SJ.

Hronek will cost more and I don’t see Vancouver with a younger cheaper option for their top line. But I love the idea

I think if the Canucks move Hronek we’d want someone that can play in the top 6 on Pettersson’s wing (Ehlers or Necas for example) rather than picks/prospects

Hronek would be cool! P1RD, only 26. He's been fun to watch in the playoffs. Good trade target. I just can't see the Canucks trading him.

    Debrusk is a good add.

Interesting starting Celebrini at 3C so he can break in slow and dominate.

I'd be reluntant to put Bords (5'10", 175 lbs) and Arvidsson 5'9", 180 lbs) on the same line.

I'm not as high on Bords and Rutta as the OP.

I don't think Rutta is P2 anymore. Out of Rutta, Benning, and Burroughs, Benning has probably played the best for the Sharks. However they are all probably P3 at best.

Hronek might price himself out of Vancouver and that is the biggest issue he's already turned down 8 years 6.5m and too much for him will hurt the rest of the team in the future. (I also think if the team wants to be a contender for years there are more important guys to re-sign).

As for the trade it isn't enough for Vancouver doesn't want another small winger we already have 2 which are great pests so it works (Höglander & Garland) for me Bystedt would be my main target cause we all know you won't let us unite the Celebrini Brothers in Vancouver. I'd say Bystedt + 33rd overall + a late round pick would be fair value for a signed Hronek. He was dealt for 17 and 43rd in a really deep draft.

Ah man I have a hard time giving him up, what about Edstrom?

Only reason I kept Rutta is because he’s a big defensive dman, will be able to rectify some of Shak’s mistakes. Didn’t want to go after more than 1 dman so we can assess where we are after this season.

As for the third line, that’s a good point. I’d keep bordeleau, maybe even just scratch the Arvidsson idea and put Kostin there, or sign a more physical guy like domi this off season

The reason I offered picks and prospects, was your cap situation, would you be able to afford another 7+ million player? Especially if you try to keep Lindholm around
