Note: Reports prior to Sept 2023 were originally graded out of ten, and also included additional categories that have been merged into the current categories.
This likely results in the overall ratings prior to 2023 being decreased in comparison to reports since Sept 2023.

For an `Apples to Apples` comparison between players, we recommend only comparing reports before, or after, Sept 2023.
Results will average out accordingly as more data is accumulated.

Undersize - light - skilled forward who loves to have the puck on his stick Three zone detail ranges Offensive zone exits have room for more urgency to assist tracking back defensively Very creative in tight quarters - has ability to spin off checks or make plays through defenders - Needs to find a role in the top nine forward group - not a depth checking option Time in the AHL will determine his trajectory Likely to skate at ES and PP in the minors to establish his gameSep. 17, 2023Sep. 25, 2023

Massive goaltender Takes up a ton of net - good feet / balance When he squares up he is difficult to beat from range When down in the butterfly he sits tall enough to take up the upper quadrants of the net Reads the play very well - surprisingly quick moving side to side - pucks find him in traffic / screens - needs to make sure he plays between his posts and inside the paint to take full advantage of his size - barely adequate playing the puck - #2 on projection at this time - needs AHL seasoningSep. 17, 2023Sep. 25, 2023

High end compete Doesn't cut corners Solid in the face-off circle - enabling team to start with the puck off draws / especially in the defensive zone Sound hockey IQ - skill set to be used in all situations - battles for space in the offensive zone - reads the play and finds 'soft' ice to make himself available as option Quick catch and release - shoots the puck with accuracy - equal parts shooter/distributorSep. 17, 2023Sep. 25, 2023

2-way/Transitional defenceman Good feet - small area quickness is sound - cannot be described as a physical player but he doesn't shy away from contact either Since he is giving up weight and strength he has to arrive ahead of opponents/jump to space before they have possession of the puck and can dictate the play in his zone Has understated offensive upside - can QB the second PP unit Solid hockey IQ in all three zones - it will take time to adjust to the smaller ice in North AmericaSep. 17, 2023Sep. 25, 2023

Used in all situations at the college level. Puck goes through him on the PP. Read/React on the PK is sound. Noticeably stronger. First three steps are average plus, but his open ice stride has lengthened. He's a powerful skater in open ice. Off the rush he wins his share of races to 50/50 pucks. When he gets the edge he takes the play to the net. On the penalty kill he pressures the play up ice. A solid point producing college player who plays the game the right way. He can be deployed, and trusted, in a variety of roles. Middle six NHL forward is possible. Requires time in the minors to begin.Mar. 4, 2023Mar. 15, 2023

His offense has taken another step this season overall. Off the rush he is a creative thinker via zone entries / has the vision to distribute and find open space to make plays with and without the puck on his stick. On the power-play, especially from the deep slot and around the net, he has the ability to catch and release pucks before opponents front him. His overall, three zone, effort and detail has room for improvement. More effort tracking back (faster) required. Not the kind of forward who grinds out a lot of shifts. Also not likely to penalty kill or match up defensively. Element leans offense Very good stick and instincts in the offensive zone.Mar. 4, 2023Mar. 7, 2023

DP
Voit is having a very productive year playing in Sarnia (OHL). The undersize forward can make plays in a phone booth. He has a quick stick in tight quarters. Voit is very dangerous on the power-play. He rotates off the half-wall and makes plays all over the offensive zone with the man advantage. He's a very light player (5vs5) who doesn't work hard enough on or off the puck defensively. His attention to detail, and overall pace he plays the game, has a long way to go for the NHL game. His element is definitely offense. If he finds more speed and gets his game to 'average' defensive standards he has a chance to be a depth piece in organization.Mar. 3, 2023Mar. 7, 2023
Topi NiemeläLogo of the Toronto Maple LeafsRD204 of 5

P2
Niemela has seen some growth in areas of his game, and some drop off in other areas. He is being used in all situations playing in Liiga. On the power-play he is efficient. He directs pucks on net accurately and shows the ability to one-time pucks. Off the rush he can attack with more pace. He is over-handling pucks between the blue-lines/slowing down in the process. He's a reliable defender who is quick to space. For his stature he isn't shy about bumping up against opponents. On the penalty-kill he closes on opponents, shows willingness to block shots, and has an active stick in the lanes. The fact his offense has fallen off requires monitoring.Mar. 3, 2023Mar. 7, 2023

Trending up in almost every category. Being used in all situations at the Major Junior level. Reliable detail in all three zones. Some bump to his game physically. Quick release from distance and coming off the half wall. Tracks back to assist defensively. Fronts pucks / blocks shots. Good skill / not elite. Potential (2F) or high end (3F). The fact he is trustworthy enough to penalty kill and start in his defensive zone / win draws makes him an even more useful prospect on projection. Skating mechanics are in fine - requires more power out of the gate and in motion between the blue lines.Mar. 3, 2023Mar. 7, 2023

BU
His statistics remain strong. Both GAA and Save %. Late in the season (22/23) he has been playing only once a week (at best) and serving as the back-up. He's a young, developing goalie. He has time. Size continues to be attractive attribute. Big in the net. When he squares up shooters have little to look at. Rebound control ranges. When pucks spill off his body he can be exposed if having to scramble to make saves. At his best between the posts. Gloves have improved - finding more shots and catching them clean. When tracking, side to side, in the paint his low net coverage is also quicker. Trending up overall. NHL in 3 years is possible as (#2).Mar. 2, 2023Mar. 7, 2023

P2
Klingberg has been average, at best, this season in Anaheim. Having said that he remains a target at the deadline for a team that is looking for an extra layer on their power-play. His 5vs5 defensive detail ranges wildly. He has looked disinterested at times. There is a ton of risk, in my opinion, in acquiring Klingberg. The team that brings him in should expect a bottom pairing 'D' at even strength., a potential bump on their power-play. Klingberg will not PK.Feb. 25, 2023Mar. 3, 2023

Useful player who plays quick and fast As F1 he disrupts opponents breaking pucks out of their zone Takes away time and space effectively and shows willingness to play physical to create turnovers Streaky scorer. Scoring at the NHL level would be a bonus. Depth / energy provider Speed element and compete. Recall forward. Offensive Zone exits, at times, could be more timely. It's been a struggle through the first half of the season at HIFK. His offensive numbers have dropped significantly. The larger concern is the fact Roni is having less success gaining the edge off the rush and taking pucks to high danger areas. Much more perimeter in his game at this stage. A competitive player who empties the tank and can provide match-up energy when not producing offense but he hasn't been himself in 22/23 season to dateNov. 30, 2022Dec. 8, 2022

Playing to his identity at Minnesota in his Sophomore season and trending up again. Scoring timely goals in all situations - ES, PP, PK, OT Appears to be quicker to open space / winning more open ice races to pucks A threat on the PP coming off the half wall and going to the net creating screens, tips, and cleaning up rebounds. Leans more goal scorer than playmaker but his ability to extend plays along the wall benefits his line mates. Average TOI hovering close to 20:00 a night.Dec. 2, 2022Dec. 8, 2022

Some growing pains in his second year playing in SHL. Huge goalie who takes up a ton of net. Plays mid-range of his crease, which is fine with his stature. Staying between his posts better overall. No unnecessary movement. Rebound control is an area that requires attention. Too many pucks bounding off his pads and body resulting in second chances against. Outstanding blocker hand / quick. Glove hand also requires attention. Holds trapper facing down to the ice / not adjusting to catch pucks cleanDec. 3, 2022Dec. 8, 2022

A giant in the crease. His stature alone protects much of the net. Hybrid / Butterfly style. He plays his best when things are organized in front of him. Initial saves are not an issue when he is squared up properly and towards the middle/top of his crease. Second stops moving laterally are a bit lethargic. He's not real powerful moving side to side but he also has less distance to travel due to his width. Good gloves. Average playing the puck. There are nights that he labors and struggles to get around the ice at NHL speed but overall he continues to produce offense. Sees the ice. Doesn't need a lot of time or space to make plays in the offensive zone. Great release. One of the best players 'tipping' pucks. He has elite hand/eye coordination. Defending ranges and it comes down to how fast the opponent plays the game and how well he positions himself defensively. If he is late with zone exits its a struggle to get back the full 200ft. Pure offense. Potential to be an elite player but he frustrates with his lack of detail defensively. His stats do not tell the entire story for the season. His GAA is the highest it has been but his Save % is similar. His recent 10 segment of games has seen his TOI drop slightly to (17:30) per night. Used at ES and on the PP Fought through a goal scoring slump. He has averaged a PPG over the last 10. Elite offensively IQ. Great hands. Sees the ice. Can be dangerous offensively ... especially on the PP. His pace is off and appears to be trending (quickly) in the wrong direction. There are some nights he struggles to keep up with the NHL game overall.Mar. 13, 2022Mar. 14, 2022

AVG TOI (18:20) Used at ES and on the PP Easily identified. Offense is his element. Quick. Fast. Creative. Dangerous off the rush. High end impact on the PP. His off the puck detail and push back in the hard areas leaves much to be desired. Historically he has shown he can play with better detail but he lacks consistency at this time. Elite skill.Mar. 13, 2022Mar. 14, 2022

AVG TOI (16:28) Being used at ES and on the PK A skater. 2-way Transitional 'D'. His defensive detail has improved. More reliable than the past in his zone. A bumper. Not overly physical. Having said that he still has a long way to go. There are times when his gaps / reads are not well timed ... leading to odd man rushes against or hectic small areas defending. At his best when he keeps his game simple.Mar. 13, 2022Mar. 14, 2022

Avg TOI just shy of (17:00) Being used in all situations. His PK minutes/role range. Team guy. Brings energy and compete. Quick out of the gate. Presses opponents when he doesn't have the puck. He can create turnovers on the F/C. On most teams in the league he wouldn't be tasked with a first unit PP role but that he is in Seattle. Willing to go to the net/ tip pucks / create traffic. Not a natural playmaker. This is the kind of player who works for his results. Character middle 6 forward. Better than average on the defensive side of the game.Mar. 2, 2022Mar. 3, 2022

2-way forward who currently plays a simple but energetic game Consistent compete Short / choppy stride Good awareness away from the puck / he's responsible Doesn't possess an elite element offensively Tends to follow the play more than handle the puck Has time on his side at the college levelDec. 3, 2021Jan. 12, 2022

Infectious player. Brings energy, enthusiasm, and better than average skill. Used in all situations. Part of the leadership group. A 'lead by example' player. Quick to space. Difficult to defend in tight spaces. Tenacious. Creates turnovers via compete. On the rise. Size is not a concern. Could add 10-15% more separation in open ice.Dec. 3, 2021Jan. 2, 2022

Has taken another step in his development. Relentless energy and compete. Used in all situations at the college level. Leans offense but is willing to get in the lane and block shots on the PK. A bit on the light side but he also battles in the trenches and comes out with pucks off the wall more often than not. Trending up. Contributing in all areas of the game while not losing his offensive element.Nov. 21, 2021Jan. 2, 2022

Big body defender Average quickness and agility Skill set overall leans average (with and without the puck) Used RS and PK at the college level Agility in tight quarters (net to corner / corner to net / containing in traffic) needs to improve Leans defensive 'D' as a pro if he can improve on his skating and read / react Willing to gap up and lean on opponentsOct. 23, 2021Jan. 1, 2022

Off to a great start in his Freshman season Averaging over a PPG Big body forward who moves very well. Quick in transition. Backs opponents off. Uses his size to his advantage in the hard areas Extends plays along the boards and down low in the offensive zone. Well rounded prospect who brings combination of power and finesse Reliable and skilled enough to be used in all situations.Nov. 26, 2021Dec. 15, 2021

Undersize defender A solid skater He is more quick than fast. He is agile. Good head for the game overall. Used on the 2nd power play unit at the college level. More of a distributor than a shooter. Has to pick his spots physically in the hard areas as he does give up height and weight. Relies on his quickness and hockey IQ in 1/1 defending scenarios along the wall and out front his net. The kind of player who doesn't possess an elite element but also doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.Nov. 26, 2021Dec. 15, 2021
