Lol. You clearly undervalue centers. They wouldn't trade Aho straight up for Marner. You know why? Because then Kotkaniemi would be their 1C.

There is definitely a world where Marner to Carolina makes sense but I highly doubt it involves either of those players

I'm not sure I agree with your thought on Aho>Marner, but I definitely agree this isn't the trade. That also leaves Toronto with four high-profile UFA's next season and the chances of keeping everyone are tough. Maybe they would look at something like this if Matthews and/or Nylander already had extensions signed so they knew what they were working with. But I don't see them backing themselves into a corner like this.

Carolina and Toronto are in very similar situations this offseason with needing cap flexibility for 2024 while needing to improve in the short-term. Should be fascinating to watch both teams operate. For this reason alone I don't think they're good trade partners.

Im not saying Aho > Marner. Im saying it's incredibly circumstantial and in in general being a center drastically increases your value compared to being a winger. As it stands Carolina absolutely values Aho higher than Marner.

Carolina actually has loads of cap space this summer which is why going after someone like Marner has merit to it. I think a trade that would make significantly more sense would be something around Necas++ would make more sense to me. Necas has the ability to play center and is kind of a Marner lite style player but also younger
