When to trade down or when keep pick

Description

I think there are a handful of guys that ought to be no-brainers for NJD to keep the pick if any of them fall…

1) Celebrini
2) Levshunov
3) Buium
4) Catton
5) Dickinson

(of course, if Celebrini fell to #10, something is seriously wrong...so probably rethink that one)

There are a few that I could go either way on…

6) Demidov
7) Eiserman
8) Saliyev

The rest of these guys, I have no strong feelings either way…and if a trade down is possible to 12-17 range, do it…

9) Lindstrom
10) Helenius
11) Iginla
12) Parekh
13) Connelly
14) Brandsegg Nygard

After that, I’d just assume not have a 1st rounder this year and add whatever young player we can get for swapping the pick.

If you add a little more, maybe Zegras could be a target.
(The Dach trade is fair imo, but at this point, MTL are starting to build a competitive team, so they will keep guys like Dach)

It was just an example of high pick-for-young player deal...not really something aimed to be a trade.

I am sure there are better 2024 examples out there.

I listened to the interview that said he was open to it . Is there another one? That sounded like standard free agent speak

The big forward I like in a trade is Drake Batherson. I don’t know if he’s available or what it would take to pry him out of Ottawa. If there was any way to fix the goaltending and acquire this forward (Batherson or someone else) without moving off the 10th overall pick or a major part of their future, that would be fantastic.

I’d move 10 pick for any of those guys. But good young dmen are hard to come by.

It would probably be a winger…or deep-in-the-red but low candidate

100% agree. And then my second preference would be to draft a top dman with the pick. Dickinson would be ideal

His agent has been pretty pursue the highest deal. We’ll see where he ends up, but my assumption is he makes more than 4.5

Maybe 10th and mercer for zegras ? Personally i don't think zegras is worth that much but this is what ANA fans will scream its not enough its not enough
