Jersey doesn't need Matheson but just judging on what Montreal got for Romanov, I would say that Montreal wouldn't be adding picks, I would think that Matheson brings back 10th + a 2nd or good prospect.

NJD needs a shutdown dman who can kill penalties at a high level.

Matheson isn’t that.

He’s bad on the PK, he’s a PP specialist who’d be the 4th dman to get PP time in NJD.

And he’s underwhelming at even strength.

I get you would think he's underwhelming 5 on 5 but consider he faced the toughest competition league wide last year and held his own.

If you're looking for a shut down dman, Matheson ain't it. If you're looking for a good #3 guy who moves the puck, skates with the best of them and can qb a pp then Matheson is who you're looking for.

NJDs PP with Luke Dougie and Nemec QBin has been 22% over the last 2 years.
