By getting rid of Mikheyev contract you could sign Toffoli or Marchesseault via FA. Anyway, I don’t expect everyone to agree but Kent Hughes will probably pull another move this summer

To put it another way, it seems clear to me that Zegras and McTavish are line drivers who can both score goals and set them up. It's premature to think that Gauthier is, and we already know that Caufield isn't, he's essentially a goal-scorer.</div></div>
Eum Caufield is not essentially a goal scorer, he proved he is driving more his line than Nick Suzuki. Very good playmaker as well, but there’s no reason for both teams to make that trade. I also think McTavish has more value than Cole Caufield

Barron is an offensive RHD while Johnson is more of a defensive LHD. You can’t really compare both, especially since Barron only played top 4 at the NHL level while Johnson mainly played on the 3rd pair. But I really like Johnson game, just they are not the same type of player in style of play

Is he available
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>The short, curt answer: what would you give up to acquire a top-line forward? That's what Columbus is looking for.
The longer, detailed answer: Columbus doesn't have any incentive to move him for less than a stellar package. We (like Montreal) are looking for top-end talent, we (like Montreal) have plenty of picks and prospects, but could look to package those for upgrades, and we (like Montreal) are looking to crack our compete window open within the next 2-3 years. It's true of other trades, but Columbus and Montreal aren't good trade partners for those reasons; anything you need, we need; anything you want, we want; if someone was constantly inquiring about Caulfield or Slaf, what would you tell them?
The realistic answer: Laine isn't available, unless you're putting together a good package with heavy conditions to upgrade picks. The best I've seen today from Montreal (lord knows there's been dozens of them) was Beck, Mesar and a 2025 2nd that upgrades to a 2025 1st if, for example, Laine plays 60 games or scores 30 goals. Even that likely falls short.</div></div>
Crazy that some Habs fans think we are one Patrik Laine away to make the playoffs consistently lol

Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Actually I've heard that about you. You're very well known as being biased and ignorant of other teams on this site.
Having a lot of LHD means the Jets don't need more. Again showing your ignorance. Matheson is 30, has a bad contract for a 2nd pair guy, is okay offensively, but bad defensively. He might be better offensively than Samberg, but a lot worse defensively and definitely not $3.4 mil better than Samberg. Then the Jets have Heinola for 3 LHD, who had made the team out of camp last year, but got injured.
With cap hits taken into account Samberg and Heinola are a better bet than a 30YO declining defenseman. That's asset management.
Barron will require waivers at some point this season which substantially reduces his value when he would be fighting with 2 or 3 other guys for 7D. Barron is an AHL/NHL tweener at this point that all teams have 2 or 3 of.</div></div>
Matheson is declining, this tells how much you know about hockey. Matheson on one leg is better than both Samberg & Heinola

Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I never said Monahan for a 6th. I said Monahan wasn't worth a 1st and wasn't an improvement on anything Winnipeg had in house. Which was correct on both counts. You on the other have said Monahan would cost a 1st and top prospect.
You obviously have no idea what Winnipeg needs.
Matheson is an LHD which has no value to Winnipeg as the Jets left side is full. Barron needs waivers this year and can't crack the starting 6 consistently on a bad team with no depth. He obviously doesn't come close to the the top 6 in Winnipeg, giving him little to no value to Winnipeg.
Educate yourself on the needs on other teams before you spout off and end up looking so ignorant of other teams needs like you did here.
Just because you want to dump these players doesn't mean they have value to other teams.</div></div>
I think everyone of every fans bases agrees you are the ignorant one since you are always dead wrong. Monahan was clearly an upgrade on Perfetti & Namestnikov. WPG PP was much better after the Monahan trade.
My mock trade at the TDL was Monahan vs MTL 2024 2nd round pick that the Jets hold. So nice try.
Having a lot of LHD doesn’t mean they are good. If Dillon leaves, that leaves you with Morrissey as a true top 4 LHD. Samberg is a #5 dman, could become a top 4, we don’t know yet. Schmidt isn’t good, Samberg sucks, Heinola has a hard time to become a full time NHLer but guess what, he didn’t have to go through waivers so WPG took their time.
Matheson would automatically be your 2nd best dman
Barron played in MTL this year and because of our depth (yes we do have a lot of depth on the backend), Barron was waivers exempt so they sent him down to work on his defensive game. Anyway, you ain’t reading all that, you don’t understand a lot about asset management

You said Monahan for a 6th and he went for a 1st
You said you didn’t need him to play 4C, when he would clearly be your 2C
You don’t even know what your team needs …
The trade above doesn’t make sense tho, but a trade involving Matheson + Barron vs Ehlers would make more sense

Dach has not even truly arrived yet at 23, Byfield had his first good season at 21. Let's split the difference and say Lindstrom doesn't help the Habs really until age 22. That's 4 years! You wanna lose for another 3-4 seasons?</div></div>
Yes ! I do want to lose another 2 years before getting into the playoffs. I don’t wanna do a rebuild long like Buffalo/Detroit, but it’s only been 3 years we are picking top 5
