All thats missing is a 3C

Created by: Aebexz
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2024
Published: Jan. 16, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
NYR
  1. Wennberg, Alexander ($500,000 retained)
SEA
  1. 2024 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Rangers really need a 3c for their playoff run, there’s not a lot of players available and there’s a chance Wennberg isn’t available either. But considering I doubt the Kraken will make playoffs, selling a pending UFA makes sense

Gotta think Seattle very happily accepts.

If rags are struggling offensively outside of their top line I’d have to think someone like Novak who’s more offensively minded would be a better target, Wennberg is more of a defensive minded guy

I know but I doubt Nashville would be interested, considering they are as of right now in the playoffs and not looking likely to drop out. Also, I would be surprised if the Preds are not doing everything in their power to resign him atm.

Not at that cost. There are some other options out there.

Almost none of the teams outside the playoffs have a good center on an expiring contract that would fit the 3c role. Adam Henrique is probably a better option but that’s about it. He would also be more expensive.

Not sure why a trade would have to be someone on an expiring contract, but assuming that there is Monahan in Montreal, Johnson in Chicago, Novak in Nashville to name some. And if Chytil recovers and can play, they don't need a 3C. Rangers pass at that cost.

They hopefully only need a center for this upcoming playoff with Chytil hopefully returning, which is not a certainty. And regarding Johnson, he’s injured as always. Not sold on Monahan being the right guy either, also not sure if Montreal is looking to trade him. Nashville wont be sellers as a playoff team which rules out Novak

There is no way anyone knows what Nashville will do or if they make the playoffs, and same for Montreal. Johnson will be back and has lots of playoff experience, but its all moot if Chytil can return. And if Drury can make a good trade for a 3C with term, why not? Gives him flexibility if Chytil's concussion issues get worse. Love to see him get Gourde, but I know that would cost. No chance Drury trades a 1st round pick for a 3C rental.

Wennberg is a fine pick up but not for a first rder. 2nd rder tops.

Someone mentioned Novak, I’d trade a first for him. Someone young enough to re-sign if they traded a first and enter the core they have

The Rangers aren't trading their only 1st round pick at the deadline unless it's for A) a high end prospect (think Ryan Leonard caliber), or B) a bonafide superstar NON rental.

They're not going to waste their only 1st on dumping Goodrow, or on a mid-player who can walk over the summer for nothing. No way. I hope Drury learned from his mistakes last year. Doing that year in and year out is a 1-way ticket to a rebuild.

It's of the utmost importance for the Ranger to continue drafting for their Young Core. Specifically a centre. And it doesn't matter that it'll most likely be a late 1st. We had a late 1st last year and majorly lucked out with Perrault.

Too much for Wennberg, a 2nd at most, would probably be a good pick up for the Rangers though.
