The 1st is what pays for dumping Samsonov.

So, the trade is basically Chabot for Liljegren.

Ottawa declines.

Toronto can have Brannstrom for Liljegren.

Toronto can also have Chabot for their two 1sts because the Leafs don't have any 2nds.

This is a rushed deal, I think they’ll be more calculated with the move.

Liljegren is good, but i think there are better options.

not being snarky but which other teams do you see paying more for chabot's full 8mil than liljegren + a first?

I dont think Chabot would be a good fit in Toronto. Leafs have been there and done that twice with high profile offensive defensemen in Barrie and then Klingberg - both of which did not work out

If you are looking at Ottawa D men I think Chychrun would be a way better fit

eh personally i disagree. other than rielly who's routinely been forced to eat 30mins a night the leafs dont have another d-man who's good in the transition and that's chabot's strength

Chabot hasn’t really had a true season with the injuries he’s had this year, but I think people overlook how good he actually is. The guy shouldered an entire franchise for years and I think it’s almost burnout in a sense.

He is absolutely a top 4 defender on a lot of teams and a PP QB1. We would keep him if we weren’t log jammed at LD with a ton of guys. He’s redundant in a sense.

exactly, and what you need is a right hand defenseman. not saying liljegren is elite but he's a massive improvement on brannstrom and it gifts you a ton of cap flexibility for the new gm in the summer

That implies he’s a cap dump, he’s not, the Liljergen Brannstrom comparison is irrelevant. It’s a different slot the Sens are trying to fill. Is Liljergen 2RD? I don’t think so at the moment, the first is a nice piece but Samsonov is a free agent at the end of the year and is a giant question mark. Sens wait out and get a better offer.

The trade is actually:

Tor: 2024 1st round pick + Liljergen
Ott: Chabot

The Samsonov part is irrelevant because he was recently on waivers and the Sens won’t defer until 2026 in their situation.

2024 1st round pick + Borgon (Sea)
2024 1st round pick + Jensen (Wash)

Possible higher pick and more stay at home D

While I think its a good move for Philly to get out from under the Risto contract, its seems like a lateral move in that they could probably get better value elsewhere based on need.

Those are both very comparable trades to Liljegren + 1st though
