You’re asking for 2 years of a top 3 goalie on a cheap contract and THAT’S all you’re offering? Come on..

With Vancouver’s current needs, if Demko was dealt (highly unlikely right now), I can’t see any deal happening without starting with Mercer or Nemec. But this ain’t it.

I don’t think Vancouver is gonna move Demko. The comparison for that would be if the devils made Akira Schmid their 1A goaltender after he stopped the rangers in their tracks. I’m not saying Silovs can’t be an NHL goaltender, but teams are going to learn his tendencies.

1. I agree…I don’t think Demko is going anywhere
2. NJD did that with Schmid twice (Blackwood, Vanecek)

Look at top returns for goalies in cap era. Not going to find many bigger packages than this.

I think Vancouver declines because they want to keep Demko. Not because the return is too small.

Maybe Mercer for Demko one-for-one. No goalie could could return Nemec.

Name the last time a 28 year old, top 3 goalie got traded to a team that only needed a good goalie to be a much better calibre team.. you can’t.

Yea goalies historically haven’t returned much in a trade. But the situation that New Jersey is in combined with how good Demko is + his contract/age means you’d pay more - likely a price fans wouldn’t be comfortable with.

Mercer + prospect + pick for Demko.

Nemec + pick + younger roster player with not as much upside for Demko.

It’s a fair trade. Vancouver solidifies their defense for years to come with Marino as their second right shot top 4 defender under cost control, which doesn’t come cheap. The 1st and the second are also a great return since they more or less grants another rental or acquisition of a great player like Hronek and Lindholm. Also this deal will never happen whatsoever if Vancouver doesn’t feel like Silovs are ready.

King Arturs will absolutely invite Demko to his Arty Party. But in this hypothetical scenario any trade starts with Mercer and/or 10th OA

If only we had an example of an elite young goalie with 2 years left on their contract going from Vancouver to NJD for a top 10 pick 1 for 1 to use as an example. Oh well, no way a trade like that would have happened in the past

Schneider wasn’t a top 3 goalie at the time.. nice try though.

Cory Schneider in the 3 years prior to being traded:

1st in SV%, 1st in GAA, 2nd in GSAx/60, 4th in total GSAx

Demko over the last 3 years:

8th in SV%, 23rd in GAA, 14th in GSAx/60, 11th in total GSAx

You're right. Schneider was much better than Demko is.

Canucks pass, Vancouver isn't moving Demko while being completive, even if we were this package doesn't get it done.

Was Schneider a vezina finalist when he was traded? Nope. Don’t think so. Stats only get you so far - goaltending stats are heavily weighted by the team in front of them. Demko is a far better option than Schneider was.

FTR..

Schneider in the 3 years prior to being traded:
30GP, 33GP, 25GP - 88 total GP

Demko in the last 3 years:
51GP, 32GP, 64GP - 147 total games played

So Demko plays almost double the amount of games. also tough to say Schneider was better at the time when he played behind a much better team defence at the time. But sure, believe what you want and only look at stats without taking into context the overall situation 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hence why I used GSAx. Cory Schneider then remained elite on a piss poor devils team.

List of goalies who were better than Schneider from 2010-2016:

Henrik Lundqvist.

That's the list

You can argue Price if you want.

If you don't understand how good Cory Schneider was you simply aren't worth talking to. He WAS a top 3 goalie. Without a doubt.

Demko isn't.

I'd take Helle, Sorokin, Shesterkin over him in a heartbeat

In the 2 years prior to trade:

Schneider: 48% of team starts
Demko: 50% of team starts

Wow huge difference

He started 30 out of 48 games that year (Luongo started the other 18). So was very much the #1 at the time. And he had beaten out the guy who had taken Vancouver to game 7 of Stanley Cup finals and had won Canada an Olympic Gold Medal. They shared a recent Jennings trophy …and Schneider was league leader in save % and gaa in the three years prior. Luongo had requested a trade at 2013 deadline, but VAN did not find an offer they liked. So going into the 2013 off-season, everyone had expected Canucks to deal Luongo and make Schneider the unquestioned #1 going forward. But the new CBA made it more challenging as buyouts for front-loaded deals had a new recapture penalty, ruling out a future buyout. So they became open to idea of trading Schneider instead. Gillis and his staff had identified Bo Horvat as someone they wanted out of the draft….and even had spoken to EDM at one point about their #8 pick. On the Saturday before the draft, Gillis and Lamoriello worked out a deal for #9 pick if Horvat fell to that spot. On draft day, they executed the trade (draft was held in New Jersey in front of home crowd). The Devils were not expected to be buying a goalie since they still had Brodeur as their #1. So it was a surprise to Nj fans as well. It was the first 1st round pick-for-goalie trade in a couple of years (and first known top-10 pick for goalie trade in cap era). Varlamov was dealt in 2011 for 2012 1st, Voukon, Toskala were part of deals in 2007 for 1sts, and Roloson was dealt at 2006 deadline for 1st (only known pick at time was #13 as part of the Leafs/Sharks 2007 deal).

Context for you.

“Completive” noun; a word or morpheme that adds a sense of completeness to a word or phrase (e.g., up in the phrase break up ).

Learn something new everyday!

(Demko would be ‘Completive’ to NJD too)
