I get that the average user on this forum is completely delusional at the best of times, but I'm frankly baffled as to why so many wannabe armchair GMs expect the Sens to trade their heart-and-soul captain this off season. 0% chance Ottawa makes this trade.

2nd overall is not enough by itself for Brady. Your hope is that 2nd yields the type of impact Brady does but that would take years to even see.

all the rumor said was 2nd OA was involved in a trade for Mathew, almost guaranteed there were other pieces going to CGY with the 2nd OA too.

My guess is Boston just hangs up or proposes a deal that NJ won’t do.

Not sure which is the more likely scenario. All I know is the deal you just outlined probably annoys them more than anything else . There comes a point where you question the judgment of the offerer and just move onto other teams with the goalie that is actually available. My belief is anyone who would ask about Swayman again is not serious about making a deal for a goalie. It’s literally wasting his time every time it’s brought up.

If Boston is interested, they will let you know. They won’t be, so I wouldn’t hold your breath

We tried! Even if we were on the list…I don’t think timing worked out as Calgary was still trying to bring him back.

To be clear, I am Devils fan (and below average ACGMer) that does not believe Sens trade Brady, nor believes NJ wins another lottery. This is all just for fun.

He has not signed…so until then, we shall try

(It’s also a little pushback on some of the Ullmark offers of late)

Like I said, it’s a sign of not being serious. If someone has told you no, how long before disregarding it does it border on disrespect or worse. If the NJ GM did this, I’d question his judgment and wonder if he knew how to get a deal done.

Sweeney said he wasn’t available enough to even entertain discussing it. This would likely irritate him more than foster a potential trade

The average number 2 overall pick turns out similarly to Tkachuk.

But you get 3 years of ELC+4 years of RFA control.

Vs 4 years at 8.2 million

There were really two rumors that have been mixed. There was first something that LeBrun and others reported weeks after it occurred and it said that NJD offered up 2nd overall to Calgary for Tkachuk between the lottery and the draft. It sounded like it was a kick-the-tires starting point…but Calgary wouldn’t budge since they were trying to extend him. So it didn’t get any further.

The second was in the period between when Tkachuk said he wasn’t extending in Alberta and before his list of teams became public. This was a few weeks after NJD had drafted Nemec. It was more speculative and it’s unclear if NJ really made an offer at that point.

So we don’t really know…but it’s possible, if Calgary had wanted that 2nd pick, there would have been other pieces involved.

Can say the same about Ullmark trades from Bruins fans for top-10 pick or more

Agree, which is why I don’t believe it makes any sense to discuss a top 10 pick or Swayman without significantly changing the parameters of the deal.

The only difference is most Bruins fans say top 10 is too much and most Jersey fans know Swayman isn’t available.

You are emulating the people who say Ullmark for a top 10 pick is viable. Same level of unrealistic, optimistic thinking

I have shared my reasoning numerous times.

1. Swayman went through Arb hearing. More than 80% of players that do are not on team within two years.

2. Swayman started talking extension again when window opened in January. His agent flew into town for pow-wow with B’s brass. But they didn’t get far.

3. Many observers said that they expected him to sign just as window opened (Friedman, Kaplan, etc). But he didn’t. It’s possible team side was too optimistic.

4. Shortly after their meetings, when asked about his all-star selection, he brought up the painful experience from Arb hearings.

5. At all star game, he hugged other goalies.

(Especially #5…lol)

It is a more sound approach to anything from Bruins fans around Top-10 pick for Ullmark or Mercer for Ullmark. I have also said many times that I expect Swayman to return to Boston…but believe him to be fair game until then.

But right now, I’d say it’s 80/20 he extends…maybe 75/25. If he is not signed by the draft, then maybe it becomes more if 60/40….and drops under 50/50 if he files for arbitration.

So basically you came up with percentages with limited logic behind it and are hoping it to be true even though the GM of the Bruins shut down discussions immediately

I can pretty much guarantee if Swayman is traded, it is NOT going to be for someone like Mercer. It will be in a package for someone like Draisaitl or Hirschier.

With Mercer’s pending RFA contract, I don’t feel like Ullmark for him is all that much of a stretch personally. His primary value is maybe in a bridge contract especially if you don’t believe he can play center. If signed to a long term contract, you got some downside risk like LA is dealing with on DuBois and the reality is you can likely secure a better immediate player with the relative salary. You’re picking him up for his upside.

Maybe toss in a future 2nd and a secondary prospect like Merkulov along with Ullmark for Mercer instead of waiting for 2025 for a first.

80% of players who go through Arb hearings are gone in two years. Most fans of those teams say the same thing, “our guy is different”…”our GM will never let him go”…yet it happens all the time. Also, at goalie position specifically, RFAs are more likely moved than signed guys. They were over $2m apart on a one-year deal last time. That’s not very close. And haven’t gotten very far on long-term deal. So a little early to make any sort of guarantees.
