Description
5 OVR it is!

It's likely that Celebrini and Demidov/Levshunov are gone 1 and 2 after SJS and CHI get done (It depends if CHI might want to pick up their #1 D now and get another stud Forward in the 2025 and 2026 drafts (Hagens, Malone, Misa, Mckenna, etc).

Now at #3, the Ducks will apparently draft a RHD - aka Artyom Levshunov or Zayne Parekh (assuming they like both equally).
Now, in a scenario where Levshunov is taken by CHI, I doubt ANA risks it and they probably draft Parekh or another good Dman they like.

Now at #4, CLB would likely go for BPA, but I think they would be leaning for a forward considering they have Denton Mateychuk and David Jiříček as young D prospect. Their Forward group has Fantilli as a future stud center and a lot of talented wingers, therefore, I'm sure they would like to add a guy like Lindstrom to complete a nice 1-2 punch down the middle.

SO in a scenario where Artyom Levshunov or Zayne Parekh are still available at #3, ANA would trade back with the habs for a good price. The habs could then jump over CLB and **** them from Lindstrom while ANA would still guarantee picking one of Artyom Levshunov or Zayne Parekh while acquiring a LOT of assets.

Now, in a scenario where Levshunov is taken by CHI, I doubt ANA risks it and they probably draft Parekh or another good Dman they like right away, leaving one of Lindstrom and Demidov for the Habs - no trade necessary at that point.

ANYWAY - ANA fans - what would be the cost of the 3 OVR for 5 OVR swap ?

Barron to fill up the RHD some more and to compensate for the risk between Levshunov and Parekh.

Harris a young two-way LHD that is great in retrieval, in exits and in transition.

and B prospect in Kidney.

Those assets combine are, IMO, an overpayment - but one the habs would be glad to make to get their guy.

I read the rules about that and you're right.

But, I'm 100% sure that Chicago will gonna want to secure their RD spot (because they are very rare to find).

To be fair, the rules as they were written were not clear at all, apparently a clarification came out in the last 24 hours regarding Chicago, it does require gaining an advantage apparently.

So then Anaheim, since they fell last year, hasn't started their timer

    Curious who you guys pick.

For me I think you guys should take Demidov / Levshunov whichever one drops to 3

But I’ve heard some Helenius buzz . This could be another Mason McTavish type of selection

I haven't heard a peep about Helenius, he'd be the first sub 6' that Verbeek drafted, I just don't see it. I heard about it through a Habs fan, so I doubt theres any actual smoke there.

I also have doubts about Demidov, though the skill is there.

I really think it's Leshunov or Parekh

Parekh wouldn’t make sense. Wouldn’t fit next to any of your LD

Guess we'll find out in a couple months, still time for movement pre draft.

Demidov + Emery/Elick makes more sense

You get a guy to pair with Zellweger with the Edmonton pick

To begin with, the difference between 3rd overall and 5th overall is 21st overall -- well up the ladder from where the Winnipeg first is even if Boston, Colorado and Edmonton win their second series.

Second, none of those young players is very appealing to Anaheim (specifically). Barron is a very good prospect and looks like he might be a second-pairing RD. However, Pat Verbeek's announced assignment for this off-season is to add a top-4 RD and we already have Gudas and Lindstrom on the roster and Luneau coming up, so he's not the jewel to us that he might (and should) be to other teams. Harris, while also a very nice prospect with second-pair potential, is a LD and we have no fewer than four young LDs already on the roster in addition to Cam Fowler plus two good prospects coming up on that side, so he isn't a needle-mover either. Kidney is, as you admit, a B prospect left-handed forward and we have a surplus of those both on the roster and in the pipeline, so he's effectively a nullity. If Chicago takes Levshunov, I think that Anaheim would only accept the Winnipeg first and another pick or a right-handed A prospect like Beck or Mesar plus your earliest 2025 second to move back to fifth overall. Easily affordable spare parts like Barron, Harris, Kidney, Heineman, RHP etc. no more close the gap in this kind of deal than they do in a proposed Trevor Zegras trade.

At that point it is not worth it for the habs - as the difference between Lindstrom and Iginla is not that wide.

If Levshunov is taken - ANA has a reason to trade back - and Habs would probably have the best offer.

You know Verbeek is just going to take his guy at 3 rather than risk anything.

Yep - but this scenario is from a perspective where Verbeek would see Parehk and Levshunov or any other D as equal (both great but for different reasons) - thus acquiring assets to have a decision forced upon him might be worth it.

But if Levshunov >>>>>> any other Dman available ... then yeah... he picks him up in a heartbeat.

CHI will be the spoiler in this draft. Their decision between Lindstrom, Demidov, Levshunov, Silayev (I'm not big on him) - will create chaos on the draft floor.
