Sabres not paying Mittelstadt then trading for Colton would make me very angry.

I think Gourde will cost more, especially with all that retention, but I really like the idea.

The third pairing is my biggest concern here. If they can find someone better to play with Malinski, that would be ideal.

Overall though, Mitts + picks for Byram and Colton still seems like a fair trade, imo.

Mittelstadt is a lot better. They don’t want a long term commitment to another center until one of Kulich/Savoie or östlund become full time NHL players.

I think it was the 6.5 - 7m that Casey will be making is what they did not like.

Colton is at 4m and a different style player. (Same goal production though)

Mitts is better but in the grand scheme of things, Kyv wasn't going to pay him $6.5 M give or take to be a mid-six/top-6 forward that can play top-line in a pinch.

Am of the opinion that unless something weird or devastating happens, KAGM and Lindy will be riding Tage and Cozens as their Nos. 1&2 C's leaving a clear need at 3C.

There's a ton of fear emanating from Sabreland that's based upon an impending cap-ceiling problem. Which is legit.

Colton is a 3C that's $2.5M less than Mitts and servers that role well for not only the price, but also for what they need.

I think the Sabres could easily be interested in Colton
