I’m a Sens fan and can shed some light on Norris.
He had 35 goals/55 points in 66 games which lead to his current deal. At his best, and healthy, he’s a finisher who plays a solid defensive game but isn’t a great playmaker.
Since signing the deal though he’s had at least 2 (maybe 3) shoulder injuries and has had surgeries to fix the issue. Since he signed his deal he’s only played 58/164 games and hasn’t looked like himself. His defensive play has fallen off, his play driving got worse, he’s tentative to get physical and his production plummeted (18G, 33P in those 58 games).
You’d be buying low on Norris’ due to the injuries and 8M AAV, but taking on a big risk. Maybe this recent surgery fixed his issues and he can return to the way he was. Or maybe he’s just destined to be an oft-injured player who fails to live up to his deal.
I’d take that risk as a Sens fan just to clear the capspace since Greig/Pinto should fill his role, but I wouldn’t take that risk if I was another team.
