Acquiring Draisaitl starts with Slavin, Jarvis or Svechnikov

Nikishin is more valuable than Svechnikov, or even maybe Jarvis, and Draisaitl isn't getting Slavin. That would need McDavid coming the other way for a package to include him

he's not Marner
EDM fan base isn't the TOR fan base.
He's not getting traded.

If he can't work out an extension this summer then I think they have to trade him. He could net them a legit goalie, top pair D and some depth. That could be enough ballance to push the oilers over the edge.

A. if you can't resign him he's a rental which isn't going to return you what you think.
B. they will resign him.

Yeah but there's always the "Russian Factor" and we don't know if he ever comes over to North America which diminishes his value. Edmonton is also in win now mode so Jarvis/Svechnikov would be much more valuable. If Edmonton could flip Nishkin for a stud top pair defenceman maybe they do it (which is possible). I don't think this is too far off though (maybe switch Necas or Kuznetsov with Jarvis/Svechniko)

Or... keep Nikishin and have him be the stud top pairing D man... his KHL contract is up in May, he's already said he plans to head across to North America... stop it

For some one with his low cap hit and the way he impacts the game I think he can command a massive return. I also think it will be like Tkachuck where they will move home somewhere that he is willing to sign.

I don't think they are going to give him a say if they move him. But when they do, they will give the other team a chance to talk to him.
Thing is, there is no reason for them to A. trade him, and B. there is no reason for him to agree on taking a contract.
Just like Guentzel wouldn't agree to it.
Guys want to pick their path.... not let a trade pick it for them.
As they can earn more and pick a place they want to play.

But none of that matters because he's most likely getting resigned.
