Big signing and rival trade
I think youre going to have an incredibly hard time finding a trade partner for Smith if youre not retaining anything. Would genuinely be surprised if anyone is willing to pay you anything at all given the year he had.
If you can find someone to bite it wouldnt be Ottawa at that price.

With the number 11 pick Ottawa and draft a cheaper replacement for Josh Norris, who they can trade away for whatever the hell they want. Kids these days are drafted at 18 and playing in the NHL by the time they turn 20.</div></div>
Peterka and the 1st are solid pieces to start. Think everyones on the same page about those being a solid base for a deal.
Switch Quinn in, move Kulich and Rosen out and I think you'd have a lot more Sens fans on board. Good Ottawa connection with Quinn and gives more quality v quantity.

It would take premium assets and I'm not sure Pittsburgh has any that would stack up compared to what other teams could offer.
Yager would have to be in there, Pickering is a good prospect but not great by any means. Other than that I dont think what's left to fill out an offer could outbid other teams.

OFFSEASON
I dont think that Brady trade is in the right zip code even.
Good not great dman who would still slot in behind Sanderson, Chabot and Chychrun on the left. B prospect. Good vet coming off the best year of his career. Mid/late 1st round pick.
If you're not giving up and premium assets then Ottawa doesnt even stick around for the conversation.

So Ottawa takes the last couple good years of Brass for all of Mika's prime just to pick the last couple good years of Mika up for all of Brady's prime...
Pass. Management already said Brady's not moving.

Genuinely been pushing for this.
Makes more sense to keep Chych and ship Chabot out.

Brady to Vegas

I just meant the vibe of the trade. At the time it was announced it seemed like Ottawa really didnt get anything of significance back.
Karlsson is a bit of a question mark, Brisson is still unproven, a mid 1st is okay but still a lottery ticket that we'd have to wait a couple eyars to find out if we hit on and Theodore is definitely proven and a huge win for the team but only if he re-signs. If he came with an extension it's obviously a lot more apprealing but otherwise I think the feeling of possibly being left with nothing of significance as we ship our Captain for Vegas... the deja vu might be too much for me haha

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mcpeach2</b></div><div>you're giving up a crapload for 1 year of a guy who hasnt been good since maybe 20-21?</div></div>
I would argue that this was Chychrun's best statistical year of his career. His main knock has always been health and he managed to play a full 82 games.
He did seem lost in terms of defensive coverage this year but it was really just post coaching change and to be fair the whole team looked lost. He was on a tear to start the year before DJ was fired. Would imagine that a solid structure around him would really bring the best out of him. The end of the year in Ottawa he really settled in and looked dangerous in the offensive zone where the points and goals started following him again.
I think it is a lot but I also think he'd be a home run on a stacked Rangers team.

I would imagine whatever trade clause Trouba has likely includes Ottawa. If it didnt then the deal is definitely intriguing.
Pick moves up two and a half rounds. Kakko could benefit from new scenery and throw i na B/C prospect to swap Chych for Trouba.
Yes?

Brady to Vegas
Unfortunately WIlliam Karlsson is no longer the 40 goal scorer that helped lead Vegas is '17-'18. This last year was good but the 4 seasons pervious he didnt break 20 goals and the season before that only had 24. A deal for Tkachuk cant have an aging questionable contract coming back Ottawa's way. If its not all premium assets then they look somewhere else. Brisson has potential but is still unproven and the pick isnt particularly high.
Theodore is a slam dunk but apart from that I cant say I love the deal. Giving me Stone trade vibes.

Nothing wrong with Jozy's contract. I would actually much prefer to keep him that take a 4th. Not sure why op has him moving out.

Given the year Smith is coming off of and his contract this year, you might need to be the one adding the 3rd to get someone to take him on.

I’m sure the deal was just made as a placeholder to see Brady on the team but damn. A little more work to make it seem at least a little bit legitimate would’ve been nice 😂

Contenderish Maybe
A Chychrun deal to Pittsburgh would likely need to start with Yager/Blomqvist or the ‘25 1st. There’s no way you get a deal done with none of those pieces being involved. Likely would need multiple with no 1st this year.

I think everyone in the league is on the same page of what type of player McAvoy is. My point was just that I don’t think it’s realistic.
I pointed out the issues for Ottawa but it would be the same for Boston. If you moved McAvoy out, you’d be adding a massive piece up front but then you’re stuck trying to fill 25-30mins of elite play from a RD… which is just about impossible.
If Brady goes to Boston I’m sure they’d make sure it’s literally any piece other than McAvoy or Pasta that’s moving.

Alright by all means don’t acknowledge the very reasonable reply that addressed the issues you were raising. Even if you keep raising the same issues past my reply that addressed them it’s all good. If there’s nothing to reply to then that means I made my point and you understood it, maybe even agreed.
But now that we established what I said was fair, by all means go and reply to whatever you like.
Same way you can reply to whatever you like I think I’m done replying to anything in this thread tho lol

2024-25 Buffalo Sabres Playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>Didn’t the same thing happen to Chris Pronger in Edmonton? We heard a BS rumor that he wasn’t happy in Edmonton and everyone glommed onto it, and the media wouldn’t stop talking about it until they finally forced it into being. In reality, I bet the NHL didn’t like Chris Pronger in Edmonton and wanted him in a bigger market. Anaheim isn’t the media hotbed that another city might be, but it’s a bigger metropolitan area than Edmonton anyway. The same thing happened with Jack Eichel. For years fans of other teams kept saying he wanted to leave Buffalo, as soon as his second season in the NHL. Every year, even as his play improved, we would still hear how he should want out. Eventually he finally did. Of course the NHL benefits getting him to a bigger, new market like Vegas. That said how much do you think the NHL likes having a Tkachuk brother in Ottawa? About as much as they liked having one in Calgary I assume.</div></div>
I think this speaks to a much larger conversation but at its core I think each situation is different even if there are similarities. If Matthew wanted to stay in Calgary then I’m sure he would’ve made that a reality whether the league wanted it or not. Same goes for Pronger. A final appearance wasn’t enough for him but in reality he got out at the right time.
If Brady wanted out and the league wanted him in a bigger market I’d imagine it would be somewhere other than Buffalo? It’s possible but given Brady’s personality and how they’ve tried to cater to him as they’ve built around him I feel like he’s a senator for life. Dorion prioritized him and I’m sure Staios will do the same.
Definitely food for thought tho.

Chych deal would be interesting. Don’t think Ullmark has any intention of coming to Ottawa but if he did adding a 2nd on top would be extremely hard to turn down.
