LA has no interest in 1-year of Hellebuyck, especially if the cost is Byfield.

If the Kings were willing to trade Byfield for a goaltender, and Philly was willing to trade Hart for Byfield, why wouldn't LA just trade Byfield for Carter Hart?

LAK will be left with 5m to sign 3 RFA Centers that matter and 1 RFA Center that matters less
From a roster POV you cant though as after PLD you'll have a need for 2D starters 1 D reserve and a 1 G reserve with 21/23 spots filled


IF any trade to LAK is to happen it has to be solo , no exceptions.
They'd have to give up too much of their core to add any more
Do a LAK GM and try yourself but the only way is to move players LAK fans will riot over.

Next year the doors open more depending on which pieces you dont have to re-sign cause you traded them.

This is assuming keeping Kopitar is a priority as it should be
LAK can make it work taking out lets say 20m for Goaltending tandem worth starting and Kopitar
That leaves around 18m for Byfield and the rest which is tight but doable without Vlardi needing re-signed.
Then you factor in PLD 8-9m and it puts LAK in a position to either pay Kopitar peanuts or compromise on Goaltending .

PLD to LAK with 50% RS via both WPG and PHI
Gives the reason for the trade

Hellebuyck goes to PHI until TDL
If they cant re-sign him by then they can flip him to a contender

What should PHI give up in the exchange for Hart vs Hellebuyck? Nothing
1 is a Vezina Trophy caliber Goalie and the other is far from a rookie but still playing like its his first year every year.
I think Hart has room to grow but no more then Dubnyk did in EDM
In this exchange its not a Gift and to call it an even swap for RS 1.5m-3m is bizarre but asking for a top player is worse.
Asking for more is just foolish because again regardless of age one is superior to the other by a proven metric, they other is just theoretical (has been for 5 years always with a new excuses for missing failures)

WPG needs you to RS or the deals dead in the water with LAK
It might be a great way to dump Hayes back to WPG in the exchange
PHI gets an out , WPG gets an out with their top Centers for the cost of a goalie swap both win on all sides.

It would be ideal if Grundstrom would his way to another team leaving room and cap for a JAD,MacEwan or Kupari to start
So maybe that can be your tiny reward for Hayes rather then view him as a contract dump but instead the guy who brought in Grundstrom and Hellebuyck

Because the flyers would absolutely 1000% would not accept this trade. The flyers are looking for picks and prospects. Not a 1 for 1 trade. LA wishes they want this deal to go through. Hart's value is worth a lot then a 2nd overall pick finding his game.

I agree with that but when its a former 2nd overall pick that we knew was gonna take a few years to develop because players like him usually do then I would rather that over whatever package teams probably would scrape up
