If you had a chance to take everything you’ve ever wanted in one moment, would you take it or let it slip away. 2020 marked 40 years since the first Winnipeg Jets joined the league, and since then we have never won a Stanley Cup. Chevedayoff is arguably the smartest GM in the national hockey league, building a contender completely from development, and finding a way to sign both Mark and Conner long-term, but Chevy hasn’t found the promise land, and this offseason can act as a last dance to get enough talent, it’s our best chance, and it’s the one we are going to take. The first priority is finding a Head Coach, and I see only two options. Dean Evanson is a proud Manitoban, a proud Manitoban who almost fought Bowness over a year ago. Evanson lead the Wild to two successful seasons, and built them into a tough team, we are the opposite, and that is why we lost the first round. He created the machine that is Kirill Kaprisov and made Mats Zuccarello rise from his grave. Gerald Gallent always leads teams to the boarder of the promise land, and then is let go, why? Likely due to a gap between him and Management. Gallant would be my first choice but only if him and Cheveldayoff click, if there is even one different thought in each others heads, Evanson is your guy. I believe that if either wants to bring in there own new coaching staff, they should be able to. Special teams was awful this year, and all coaches not named Arneil are allowed to be gone. Monahan is your top priority for resigning, he fills your 2nd line Center and a full season with the Jets can improve his game greatly. Demelo and Dillon are next, but Dillon sadly sounded as a man leaving town in his exit interview, and his replacement is Zadorav, a tough guy who won’t let others push your team around.
Saw this posted in a flames AGM and thought it would be a good idea for the Jets. Spend the 2nd to get rid of Schmidt and save 4 Million while getting a former 30 goal guy who has potential to relive that with a change of scenery. Since he has always been in a Canadian market there is a chance for hope in resigning him.
Great presence in the room, great guy for the team to use as marketing while being a versatile defensemen who can pair perfectly on a bottom pairing role. Hard to say where the pick ends up, ideally 64th.
Throughout the entirety of the history of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0, we have not had a Superstar player, we thought we had in in Laine but sadly inconsistencies and Fortnite got in the way, and now, when a player of calibre like this comes available and could potentially waive his NMC, you have to take it. Marner would solidify the RHW side of the forward group, bump Vilardi to the 2nd, Mangiapane on the 3rd and Appleton on the 4th. You’re probably thinking why would he want to go to Winnipeg? High crime, High taxes, High people, but any other team wanting him that contends will have another superstar, and anyone that doesn’t isn’t contending, Marner knows the pressure of a Canadian Market, and knows that any team where he is the “chosen one” has no chance of contending in the near future. Winnipeg is structured very much like Toronto, with a GM trying everything he can to make the team better (Chevy and Formerly Dubas) and a over controlling boss who wants the team to fail (Chippy and Shanahan) the only difference is that Winnipeg doesn’t have a toxic core four, so I do believe he would waive the NMC and join the Jets.
Superstars cost a lot, but when that Superstar has 1 year left on there deal and also holds a 10.9 million dollar salary, it gets complicated. The leafs are desperate to help there D, and I see Reilly as the only safe person to still have a job with the leafs beyond the offseason, Pionk can see a elevate use in Toronto and helps this problem, Iafallo is a flexible guy who has seen action in Winnipeg in every line but the 3rd, Lucius is a prospect that has seen trouble with Injuries but I believe the doctors in Toronto will have tremendous support in helping him stay healthy and find a way into the leafs, the 2025 pick in my opinion will fall in the 20-30 range.
This trade is the hottest thing on Capfriendy right now other the Marner trades, and it is for good reasons. A native of Dauphin Manitoba, Pulock would likely be pleased to waive his NMC for a homecoming to WPG, a contending team, while receiving likely more ice time which hasn’t been the same since the appearance of Dobson, and the chance to leave the grasps of a never ending Lou rebuild. This solves the problem of Winnipegs need for a top RHD which has been vacant since the decay of the once Dominant Empire that was the conference finals Jets D-Core. We haven’t been able to get over the loss of Trouba, Myers, Buff, Chariot and Enstrom in such a short span of time, and now we can finally heal. This makes our RHD depth of Pulock-Demelo-Salomonsson.
The fact is, Ehlers will not elevate his game beyond this level with the Jets, and Long Island will give him that coveted opportunity. Pulock has become less of a need for the Islanders thanks to Romanov and Dobson which means him for a speedy top line winger makes perfect sense to them. Barzel could definitely use Ehlers on his wing and can revitalize his game. This trade makes perfect sense for both teams and should be done.
Lucius + 1st is nice, but it's not nearly enough IMO. Also the Leafs barely save anything here and get much worse, plus Marner wouldn't waive for WPG. Leafs would probably want a deal around Ehlers or Perfetti

Leafs are never getting fair value for marner tbf he can choose where he goes he holds the leverage
Atlanta did come with a lot of high draft picks, not sure Chevy should have such a designation, the greatest thing he ever did was find a organization that loves status quo, or extreme loyalty to the guys from within.
I think that Mangiapane is worth a 2nd with retention. In addition taking on Schmidt would probably cost between a 3rd and a 2nd. I'd rather keep Mangiapane.
Also your UFA signings are way too low.
Monahan is going to get 5.5-6.5
Zadorov 4.5-5.5
DeMelo 5-6.5 (unless it's a hometown discount).

Thought the same on the Schmidt deal, saw it on a Calgary AGM with some positive comments, Magiapane will never be the same as long as he is in Calgary and is just taking up room for younger guys to find a way in.

I mostly agree, but what's the rush to trade him? Worst case scenario we get a 3rd at the deadline with 50% retention.
Why would we do WPG a favor by retaining salary for the entire year, and taking on Schmidt only for a 2nd? Schmidt would likely be taking minutes away from a younger guy at the blueline instead. Either from Miromanov, Kylington, Pachal, Solovyov, you name it.
