I actually think this is possible and a great trade for both sides. Vegas is loaded with excellent d men right now, but they’re cap strapped and I don’t think having Theodore hanifin and petro is maximizing their respective values; too many top pairing d men together creates sort of a Karlsson + burns type scenario imo. Still a GREAT defence, but maybe not getting as much out of both of them as you could. So what Vegas does is they trade that valuable asset that they don’t necessarily need as much any more for a top forward. Vegas IS a little cap strapped, probably more than the leafs this offseason, so I could see more money coming back. As for the leafs, I mean a two way d man making $5.2M is pretty awesome, (extending him will probably be a challenge) and to trade marner for him is a great way to use his trade value. Love this idea and hope it comes through.

extension shouldn't be much of an issue assuming he signs similar to hanifin with tavares money off the books next season
