Description
Here is my off-season predictions if I were Brad Treliving. This took time to make haha, so please try and be a bit respectful. That being said, I am open to all feedback! GLG!

May 7-9: Sheldon Keefe relieved of his duties as Head Coach. Craig Berube hired as his replacement. Assistant Coach Guy Boucher switched from PP to PK. Assistant Coach Mike Van Ryn switches from PK to PP.

May 10: President Brandon Shanahan resigns in a press conference. MLSE CEO Keith Pelley announces that he won't be replaced, and GM Treliving will report straight to Pelley.

Draft: June 28-29

23 - Charlie Elick, D
120 - Simon Lovsin, F
151 - Gabe Smith, F
152 - Mason Zebeski, F
158 - Mikhail Yegorov, F
200 - Marco Bilic, G
216 - Jared Woolley, D

June 29: Leafs trade Liljegren to NJD for their earlier 2nd round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft (Either NJD/WPG)

Reserve List:
Lisowsky, 3-year ELC

Pre July 1: Resign RFAs & UFAs
Dewar, 1x850K
Lajoie, 1x775K
Robertson, 2x1.1M
Steeves, 1x800K
Domi, 4x3.75M
Edmundson, 2x1.8M

Let test FA:
M. Ellis
C. Gregor
K. Petruzzelli
T. Bertuzzi
T. Brodie
K. Clifford
D. Gambrell
M. Giordano
M. Jones
J. Klingberg
I. Lyubushkin
M. Murray
J. Muzzin
I. Samsonov

July 1:
Trade Mitch Marner, (let’s assume he waived his NMC) and Nick Robertson to NYI for Noah Dobson, Ruslan Iskhatov and Samuel Bolduc.

Trade Conor Timmins to WSH for a late round draft pick. Timmins will get more opportunity on the young D-core, especially if WSH feels that Iorio isn’t ready for the NHL. Also familiar with Carbery.

Free Agency:
Sign B. Pesce to a 6 year, 6.75M contract. Can either play top minutes with Reilly or on a defensive shutdown pair with McCabe.
Sign L. Brossoit as a tandem goalie for Woll. Signing or more or less 3M allows flexibility in cap space and future trades.
Sign A. Dell as the 4th G on the depth chart. Behind Hildeby but brings experience and age to the G depth chart. Familiar with the org too.
Sign S. Monahan as the new 2C. Tavares moves down to a more sheltered 3C role OR stack JT, Monahan and Nylander on a line together.
If there is mutual interest, re-circle to T. Bertuzzi signing him to a medium term deal and a similar price. (3x5M)
Sign B. Duhaime for a 4th line speed line (similar to what we saw in playoffs games 6 & 7). Leaves Reaves as the 13F and can come in easily for physicality.
Sign C. De Leo & J. Hayden as depth F’s. Will play mostly with the Marlies and will be depth options if needed.

Ok, but what if this came with a pre-negotiated contract extension? Marner seems like the playmaker needed to help Barzal score. The isles need offense. They already have an outstanding D-core even without Dobson.

Mikhail Yegorov is a goalie, no?

I like Liljegren (also has NJ roots)...but RD is getting a little crowded here.

Dobson is a good defenceman who very well could become a solid #1 D-man in the near future, but I'm just not sure it's worth acquiring him, given that I don't think he'd be a good fit next to Morgan Rielly.

Personally, I think that of the many flaws this team has, the biggest is that we paid and actively deployed Morgan Rielly as if he were a #1 D-man. It's become abundantly clear he can't have a positive impact on the game unless his minutes are heavily sheltered and/or played next to an elite shutdown D-man (who also has some puck-moving/offensive abilities). Perhaps it's possible Dobson has the potential to turn into just that, but if I'm giving up Mitch Marner, I'd want something more certain.

I know I kind of rambled here, but I also want to acknowledge that Dobson doesn't necessarily have to play next to Morgan Rielly, and could even help shelter Morgan Rielly from tougher minutes. For some reason, if this trade ever happened, I can't see a scenario where the Leafs wouldn't force a "Rielly-Dobson" pairing. Kind of just a weird feeling that that's how it would play out, lol.

The Caps are pretty deep at RD with Carlson, Jensen, TVR, and Bear at the NHL level and Iorio knocking on the door from the AHL. I don't think Timmins is a good fit there.

Totally get what you are saying. That is why I also signed Pesce. He seems like a good fit with Reilly.

I can appreciate the effort put into a post like this, but I don’t really agree with most do the roster moves made here. The management side you’re probably right on, but the roster doesn’t scream a Treliving style of team, it’s just not heavy enough and that doesn’t suit Berube either.

Dobson would be a hard get. Yes the Islanders need offence, but offence starts from the defenders moving the puck to the forwards and Dobson is their best puck mover, it would be a step backwards to trade him right now even if they got Marner in return.

I’ve heard rumours that Pesce doesn’t wanna sign in Canada and wants to be closer to home. I’ve also not heard much within Toronto’s management that they’ve expressed much interest in him - he could be a great fit but I don’t see it happening.

I doubt Bertuzzi is back. Moving Marner would help, but I think he’s priced out in Toronto because there’s other needs. I know he wants to stay but I don’t think it’s something that will fit.

The draft is always a coin flip, but the selections you have don’t really seem like a win. I think that would be a disappointing draft if that’s what turned out.

I’m working on a detailed off-season thread right now and I’ll tag the link when I’m done so you can compare. Obviously we have different thoughts but again your work ethic is great
