My best case scenario at the draft

Created by: math731
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 9, 2024
Published: May 9, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Draft: I know everybody is mocking Demidov or Lindstrom in the top 4, but man does it make sense for each of these teams to draft a big top pairing D when next year will be a forward heavy draft.

1. SJ-Celebrini

2. CHI-Levshunov : Cant see them going for a sub 6 foot winger when they're already pretty small upfront while having no sure top 4 RHD in the prospect pool). Levshunov is an insane fit for them imo (play him with Korchinski for the next 10 years ).

3. ANA-Dickinson : They're a lock to grab a D IMO. They probably have Levshunov on top of their list but he isnt making it past the Hawks. So its between Silayev and Dickinson and my gut tells me they like the London Knight's a lot. Hed just be an insane fit to secure the left side with the more offensive-minded Mintyukov and Zellweger. Hed be their general playing 25min a night at 5v5 while the other two LHD get the PP minutes.

4. CLB-Silayev: Reports a saying that hes their guy and it makes sense. Having this Dcore for the next couple years (Werenski is 26) would set them imo: Silayev-Jiricek/Werenski-Matheychuk.

5. MTL-Demidov: With both Lindstrom and Demidov available, Id feel comfortable taking either, but I myself lean Demidov since hed bring much needed skills in the top 6.

6. UTA-Buium: They have a ton of solid forwards but need some more D. Right now, they have Simashev, Moser, Durzi (more of a PP guy) and maybe Lamoureux as future top 4 guys, but they dont have a true top pairing D (unless Simashev develops more offense in his game). Thats why I think Buium is an insane fit (hes awesome offensively but really good in his own end as well). Maybe they go Parekh but their scouts seems to like NCAA guys.

7. OTT-Parekh: They need RHD and hes the best available (and might have the highest ceiling in the draft among D). I also know how much the sens fans whish that he'll be there at 7.

8. MTL*: SEE TRADE BELOW Lindstrom: MTL moves up to grab the big center.

9. CGY- Iginla

10. NJ - MBN

11. BUF - Yakemchuk

12. PHI - Helenius

13. SEA* - Catton

14. SJ - Eiserman

15. DET - Jiricek

16. MTL* SEE TRADE BELOW - Sennecke

MTL
  1. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
They shed some cap to sign a guy like Guentzel this summer while also acquiring a solid and young LHD and still get a 2nd to add a prospect to their poor prospect pool.

  1. Harris, Jordan
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (COL)
  3. 2025 4th round pick (DET)

STL acquires a young RHD with offensive potential (they dont have that in their prospect pool) for moving down 2 spots and a mid second.

I don't think you'll find many takers for Barron at the value of a 2nd.

Even if that were true, I don't need to watch him to know Minnesota isn't giving you that pick for Matheson. I don't really care what your rose colored perspective says about him or his value. Minnesota is not the team.

What lol Matheson is 100% worth that pick and Minnesota is the most obvious fit in the entire league for a Matheson trade.

This is the kind of draft that sets up a team to be Stanley cup contenders for a decade….so I’m sure the Habs won’t do it. But they absolutely should.
