Coming to our senses

Created by: WN88

Initial Creation Date: May 16, 2024

Description
People are going to have to accept that Marner just won't be traded:

1) He's not going to waive his NMC
2) Even if he waived his NMC, the Leafs will pretty much lose any trade and we'll become much worse as a team

This entire narrative of overpaying the core 4 is completely overblown. I'm not saying that it isn't the reason we haven't won the past 7 years. It probably is. But Tavares is off the books after just ONE MORE SEASON. That, in addition to the rising cap, makes keeping Marner a no-brainer. The team won't be as heavily dependent on Matthews-Nylander-Marner to produce, and the structure of the team will naturally become much better. Trading Marner now will also create a massive hole in our offence for years to come. I can't think of a single team this past decade that didn't have at least 3 superstars and won a cup.

Despite what people have seen and believe, keeping Marner is necessary in order to win a Stanley Cup going forward.

This isn't the first time that you've expressed what the sane world thinks about a Marner trade. Sadly, there's a significant contingent of Leafs Nation that won't hear because they're just not listening.

You must be as tired of the Marner trades as we Anaheim fans are of the Zegras trades (which always come from non-Ducks fans).

As we used to say in the Sixties, Keep On Truckin'.

Not trading Marner is likely the best logic on anyone's part. But trading M NTC Kampf is not likely. Who on his trade llst has the cap for him?
Minten playing centre is almost an impossible thought in October for the Leafs. Storlarz gets a better offer (New Jersey boy)

I have no idea who's on Kampf's no-trade list, but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to find a place for him.

Minten started last season playing centre, so I'm not sure why it's so hard to imagine that he might be playing this year.

All these trades for Kampf because fan don't think he worth his contract. So trading him is virtually impossible. For sure Kampf will have poor team with on his "non trade list"
Yes, so many Leafs fans can't imagine him not been traded because they have to fill out a fantasy.
Yeah we saw Minten.....he wasn't near NHL ready. He's gotta play big minutes for the Marlies, and since Kampf isn't/can't be traded, Minten is a Marlie in October.

Trading Kampf isn't necessarily because he isn't worth his contract. We just have limited cap space and Holmberg. That's really it. A bottom-6 centre with very limited offensive ability. He's very reliable in defensive/shutdown situations and faceoffs. His AAV takes 2% of the cap. I would say that's pretty reasonable for MOST teams moving forward.

I really don't understand why you're so certain Minten will not be in the NHL lineup for game 1 of the season. Obviously there's still a low chance he plays, but why is it impossible? He honestly looked fine in a lot of the games he played. He even stood out in all of the pre-season games. It's also not like he's being tasked to play a difficult role. He's just being used as a defensive-minded 3rd/4th line centre. Unless you're expecting his potential to be top-6, he really wasn't that far from what we expected of him when he played last year. Worst case, he's inconsistent and we play holmberg-dewar at centre.
