Christopher Tanev | RD | 33 | 3 of 3 | 82 P2 | Does anyone in the NHL compete like Chris Tanev? Ultimate team player. Matches up against top opponents. Primary role on the penalty-kill. Averages over 19:00 hard minutes per night. 16:30 at ES - almost 3:00 on the PK. High end of average skater and puck distributor. Rarely turns plays over. Never quits trying to kill plays in the defensive zone. Blocks shots whatever way is required Leads the Flames in shot blocks overall. Part of the leadership group. Leads by example. Heading towards the twilight of his career but empties the tank every time his number is called 2-way / Defensive D who provides some depth offense.
Sam Lafferty | C | 28 | 3 of 3 | 82 L3 | Lafferty is proving to be a fantastic addition for the Canucks He's providing great value in relation to what Vancouver is paying him. His role has been evolving. Some nights he's being deployed as a third-line forward. Other nights he has found a home in the Canucks top six. His TOI has ranged accordingly from 12:00 - 16:00. The majority of his TOI comes at ES. He has some clean up duty on both special teams units. Plays fast. Physical. High end compete. Doesn't cut corners. Tracks up and down the full 200ft Providing better than secondary offense. Pending UFA at end of the season.
Alex DeBrincat | RW | 25 | 3 of 3 | 80 L1 | Debrincat scored 27G - 39A in 82GP for Ottawa last season. He was a (-31) In his first 25GP for the Wings he scored 13G-11A and was a (+7) He's on pace to easily eclipse his PPG from last year ... and more importantly (arguably) his three zone play / detail / effort off the puck has improved exponentially. Pure offense - averages around 18:00 TOI - ES 14:00 - PP 4:00 Aggressive getting pucks to the net. Dangerous shooter on the power-play. Adding Patrick Kane to the Wings lineup could lead to another level off offense from Debrincat. He and Kane were line mates together in Chicago and both feed off each other.
Dustin Wolf | G | 22 | 3 of 3 | 87 1B | Starting to get some games at the NHL level. Deserves the opportunity. Has won at every level and been recognized as the top goalie, and MVP, at the WHL and AHL levels. Size has always been a discussion for the NHL game, but it wouldn't be wise to underestimate his trajectory. Squares up very well. Top of his crease to take away net. Lateral push is timely. Quick and fast moving side to side. Never quits on a puck. Resilient battler who is already showing he can keep the Flames in games when they call his number. 2.50GAA - .920 save % in AHL - 3.03GAA - .901 save % in NHL games this year. Butterfly / Athletic style
Nick Seeler | LD | 30 | 1 of 1 | 79 P3 | Provides exceptional value based on his salary and return on investment for the Flyers. Primary ice time comes matched up against middle six forwards and on the PK. Shot blocker with better than average physical push back. Averages around 17:30 TOI - 15:00 ES - 2:30 PK Moves well. Responsible with the puck. Manages the game / reliable / consistent compete Other names are getting recognition around the league as possible trade targets Seeler would bring immense value if move out of Philly. Pending UFA. Depth offense.
Martin Jones | G | 33 | 2 of 2 | 75 2A | Butterfly/Positional style - veteran goalie who is at his best when he limits his lateral movement and plays between his posts - Had a strong training camp with the Leafs / Fall 2023 His read/react game is sound - allows plays to develop - doesn't over react - had somewhat of a bounce back season in Seattle (22/23) - GAA improved by 50% Good size - hard to beat in tight when he's squared up to the play - rebound control is generally sound - has battled inconsistencies for several years but he's capable of NHL backup duty
Adam Henrique | C | 33 | 2 of 2 | 81 L3 | Not much has changed with Henrique's game over the years. He's always provided reliable compete and better than secondary offense. The veteran forward is trending 3F at even strength but still has a role on PP#2 and one of the PK units. He's back to winning over 50% of his draws and can be trusted to properly defend, on and off the puck, when he loses a face-off in his zone. Averages around 16:00 TOI - 11:00 ES - 2:00 PP - 3:00 PK Reliable - Trustworthy - Low Maintenance Veteran Pro - Leader
Ryan O'Reilly | C | 32 | 1 of 1 | 85 L2 | Has rebounded after a very slow start in 22/23 in St. Louis - before being traded to Toronto - and signing in Nashville as a free agent. Back to playing to his identity. One of the top face-off centers in the entire NHL. High end hockey sense. Reads the play. Positions himself responsibly in all three zones. Has never played the game with elite pace - but finds quiet ice offensively and fronts the play defensively. Averages over 20:00 TOI - Used in all situations. Leader
Thomas Novak | C | 26 | 1 of 1 | 79 L2 | Momentum has elevated his status to second line scorer in Nashville. Motion player. Creative off the rush and via offensive zone entries. Good stick. Quick catch and release. Doesn't allow goalies to get set. Positions himself well in traffic areas / boxes out defenders. Not physical. Doesn't grind down opponents. Quick strike. Averages around 16:00 TOI - ES and PP.
Luke Evangelista | RW | 21 | 2 of 2 | 80 L2 | Still developing prospect who plays with reliable detail in all three zones. Sound skater. Has a gear in transition. Leans distributor / play maker more than shooter. In time he should contribute more offense. Has the hockey sense to be used in a variety or roles. Not physical. Motion player. Settling into the NHL. Averages around 14:00 TOI - ES - PP Second line upside in time. |
