2.
DET
  1. 2019 1st round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Nashville and Winnipeg are booth in on Simmonds, whoever doesn't land him will be looking for scoring help and neither have been shy about trading late 1st to make a run.

  2. 2019 5th round pick (CBJ)
3.
DET
  1. 2019 5th round pick (DAL)

I think Edmonton would be unwise to trade that 1st rounder for those guys...but who knows what's going on there.

The Nashville deal makes sense though.

Nice explanation on the trades either way and can definitely see Nyqvist being the consolation prize for whoever doesn't get Simmonds.

Oilers don’t have an extra 8 M in cap space to take on Vanek and Green. And they’re not trading the pick for rentals

Trading that 1st round pick for two guys well into their 30's doesn't help the Oilers one bit, Green isn't waiving his NMC anyway.

I agree that the Oilers shouldn’t do that, but reports suggest that they don’t realize that they’re not contenders and that they are looking for scoring and a D man. Green wouldn’t be a rental and can still contribute. Vanek is what he is. But the oilers are desperate enough to not waste a season on McDavid that they’ll try to make a playoff push. Wings would have to take a bad Oilers contract back.
