Description
I’ve given leafs fans on here a lot of crap, so I figured I should at least make a team so you can give it back. Marner signs 1 year deal, with the knowledge that at mid season he gets a 6 year deal at 11.6. From the players perspective it’s basically 7 years at 11 million, from the teams perspective it buys them a year until Marleau is gone. I didn’t go crazy with the depth, mostly focused on the big names. Might be a bit light on the Kapanen and Johnson deals, but that’s why they only got two years. I think this team is better than the leafs current team.

First off where did you find two twins with the same name Forward Depth??

I don't think Sparks gets that high he hasn't been great and that doubles his salary. if you sign Han's you don't need Oz.

Like the idea of the one year for Marner makes sense.

I don't see Dubus doing the deal not that its not fair. he stated that he isn't trading core.

Not bad. My comments:

1. I'm fine with that strategy for Marner...the more I think about it the more I'm convinced he'll do a 1-3yr bridge unless the leafs give him a Matthews type deal
2. I don't do that deal only because I'm not a big Chychrun fan. He kind of reminds me of Zach Bogosian. One of the top rated d-men in his draft class...a beast at the combine...but someone that will come short of filling potential. That's based on nothing, really, just my impression
3. I'd sooner move out Brown's $2.1m and replace it with 3 $700k players to fill out the roster but would certainly consider a Nylander move for an impact defender
4. I will be very intrigued to see if Dubas can find a taker for that Zaitsev contract...I'm fine needing to sweeten a deal to move him but, IMO, trying to anchor him to Nylander and getting a less than spectacular return would not be plan A
5. I don't like Ozzie and Sparks enough to give them over $1m. Maybe Dubas does...it's not an outrageous number for either of them...I just think you can find cheap vet replacements in UFA if they don't want $900k or less.

Good on ya, bcarlo. I also think this is a pretty realistic agm given the current state of affairs. And would only echo Juices comments that the substractions are likely Hainsey, Gards, Z, Brown, Hyman and more or less in that order, and then Nylander if they cant figure out a way to get a combination of those guys leaving to make it all work. Seems that either out of choice or circumstance the leafs will likely be building a bit of a top heavy team filled out by a fair amount of elcs and/or cheap veteran reclamation depth ie the ennis's of the league.
Could be better, could be worse.. we will see how it all shakes out
