Description
What would EDM add in terms of picks to swap Lucic for Alzner with the intention of buying out Alzner this off season?? (Habs could choose to try Lucic out for a season or two to see if they could get him to be better and if not buy him out the year afterwards)

Here is the cap breakdown difference EDM would gain from buying out Alzner instead of Lucic:

Lucic Alzner

There isn't really a situation where this trade works unless Edmonton retains some seriously Salary on Lucic.

And why would Montreal would want to pay all this money?!?

Forget it. It's the worst contract in the NHL, protected with signing bonuses.

Nobody is touching that with a 10 ft pole.

Do you guys know how to read? It literally says it in the title and description.....

Both guys get bought out. The goal here is to take on the higher cap for Montreal with Lucic so they can be compensated for doing so.

It would be no different that trading for Lucic with EDM retaining salary but this way both team can get a second "extra" EDM gets a much cheaper buyout cost but doesn;t give up as much as they would if they simply traded Lucic with retention and MTL gets some compensation for using extra cap they aren't using anyways while swapping Alzner who has been playing in the AHL for Lucic who they could potentially use instead of Deslauriers who provides the same role.

Yes i did read that. Montreal isn't going to take on 4+ Million for 4 years. There isn't a deal to be made that involves Lucic. That is what I stated.

Alzner's buyout goes way down next year when 55% of his contract will be paid off .

i'd do a deal for Lucic and retain on Alzner 1m so MTL could grab Caleb Jones and 3rd maybe even a 2nd . or no prospect and a 1st
