Description

Rangers dump some salary, bring in Panarin, and semi-commit to DeAngelo. I'm assuming none of the Rangers' 2019 draft picks make the team. If they end up with pick 1 or 2, Hughes or Kakko could make the club. If the Rangers get #1, I see them going with Kakko because they've really valued kids playing in men's leagues lately.

Staal is still here, but will be traded/bought out before the 2020-21 season so they don't have to protect him in the expansion (he could opt to waive it, but they need to move him out to make space for kids).

Our Russians come over, but only Kravtsov makes the big club. Some seasoning for Shesty and Rykov will be good. Hopefully they don't negotiate KHL out clauses into their contracts.

Claesson has been more consistent and sound defensively this year. Also he's in his prime, at age 26. He'd be a good safety net in case of injuries, but I think it'd take more money than normal to get him to stick around. The Rangers have plenty of cap space, so that's no problem.

Pionk has struggled mightily. His defense was below average to start the year and has gotten worse in the 2nd half, and he only has 4 points since Dec. 23rd. He hasn't earned a big pay raise, and if it weren't for the Rangers being so shallow at RD, he wouldn't be starting.
