Description
Cap is a pretty random prediction but if it’s gonna go up just over 3 next year I figured it might as well do the same the following year, after Marleau is Gone assuming Johnsson signed 1 year bridge and Kappy signed 2, there will be tons of room to do some crazy stuff so let’s see what we can do, for some reason Radek Faksa disappeared so I signed Brassard instead but Faksa would take Brassards place
The trade
My thinking was that
Kadri > Grundstrom
Liljegren > Durzi
Klingberg > Muzzin
So I kind of thought about it like the Muzzin Trade plus plus and then a Prospect and Brown to Take Zaitsev and another first to keep everyone happy considering I don’t think leafs fans will be complaining when they look at that roster

that is hands down the biggest overpayment ever for a deal. Toronto doesn't even let this cross their mind.

Keep in mind that Kadri has 1 year left and you are also paying them to take Zaitsev so really it’s not, Grade A d prospect B- Fwrd Prospect 1 year of Kadri a third liner and 2 firsts to dump 4.5 mil get a top RHD on a great contract and a 3c it’s not a bad deal

its a bit of an overpayment, take out lily or a 1st and add a depth pick/prospect but it makes sense. Faksa is a much more cost efficient (and better fit) of a 3C than Kadri and With Zaitzev having negative value and klinberg being a legitimate top pairing dman its not bad at all, makes sense

Be doing this, the Leafs don't have big expiring contract to pay their own players when their deals expire. I'd rather keep Liljegren then sign the expensive Barrie. That's a lot to pay for two years of Klingberg. Hard to believe that a minute eating Dman on a top 8 team. Zaitsev is of negative value. Quite the assumption that Kapanen takes so little. When Nylander had two 20 goals seasons he gets 6.96m, Kapapen scores 20 this season is going to settle for 60% less?

In fairness Kapanen doesn't have much of a history at this point. Which is why I don't think he cashes in like that this off season. Nylander did it for 2 seasons prior and finished with 20 more points each season.
I think that's the catch on the Kapanen signing.

I think the real problem with this Dallas trade is all the cap space going back. You are talking about 5 players. Most of which aren't prospects. Furthermore, Dallas isn't exactly a cap dump team.
They are a playoff team.
