Description

I inserted Cozens because I'm not 100% sure Pool Party will be a success. I'm HOPEFUL because the talent is there and being next to Debrincat/Strome can bring that along, but still not 100% convinced. Also, If Cozens really plays well...he might even be top line??? Not that he'd be driving that line...just that he'll help that line with scoring more than Drake can.

EDM needs depth. They might be looking for picks for Pool Party, but getting NHL caliber players help speed along the rebuild and McDavid is getting tired of being out of the playoffs. Getting a reclmation project (MUCH LIKE POOL PARTY), an NHL player, and a backup goalie can go a long way.

I do think it's an over payment, but on this team...what Role does Kahun serve? Besides removing Kahun...what would you do to this trade to make it fair? You also gotta give to get.

There are no rights to Panarin; he's a UFA. Cozens is a center, he's not a winger. I know there was a writer or two that suggested he could play wing, but there's also 8 other writers who know Cozens has always played center. Theoretically, Cozens replaces Anisimov next season which will free up $3.5M of cap space to fund Panarin or Dzingel or the likes. Maybe Hawks pry or offer sheet Kap away from the Leafs.

I'd prefer not to offer sheet anyone really. I don't want to give up that 2nd. I'd rather trade away a player for a 2nd in preparation for Expansion.

***EDIT*** But I do agree that he'll be a center for the Hawks in the long term.

He's pretty exclusively played Center for Lethbridge this season and has all the tools to be a center so why play him at wing? Dach and Cozens have the potential to take over for Toews in 3 to 4 seasons as the 1C, develop them that way.
