Duchene isn’t coming back. The 2020 1st is too important and holds way too much value at this point with the question marks around the goaltending. So unless Bobrovsky is coming back Duchene is gone.
On the contrary. With the trades above, you are helping to fulfill what will most likely happen.
The Jackets made the original deadline offer of 2 first round picks to get an elite top center in Duchene to take the pressure off of a still very young Dubois.
While first round picks are valuable, I acknowledge, please tell me what the difference in value is between a CBJ 1st round 2020 pick and an Ottawa, LA or Vancouver 2nd round pick in the same draft that we could obtain for a Wennberg? 10 draft positions?
The CBJ absolutely will try to re sign Duchene and not let him walk just to save a 1st. Restocking the cupboard with trades of several other players will help the team immensely.
Just remember, in 2017 CBJ did not have a 1st round pick, and they still outdrafted most teams outside of the top 10 by taking Texier in the 2nd round.
Also keep in mind there are several good UFA goaltenders out there to be signed, and losing Bob and Bread will open up some cash to spend.
Saving that 1st round pick will not help the goaltending situation in the short term anyway.
