With Trouba, the Jets need to unload salary to afford re-signing Laine and Connor amongst others - and the reports all have said Trouba will want a significant raise where he'll price himself out of Winnipeg. Reports also said that Jets will try to re-acquire a 1st rounder after forfeiting theirs in the Hayes trade.

Maybe Sabres would have to add another draft pick to the package on top of the 1st rounder but it doesn't seem the Jets would want to take on any salary.

As for Toffoli, I can see the Kings wanting to get something to replace his offense but the reports around the deadline were that LA wanted to add picks to help with their restocking of young prospects and that they were trying to fill the hole on defense when they dealt Muzzin. Whether or not Scandella would be someone they'd consider is anyone's guess but he does fit the kind of mobile skater that McLellan often talks about wanting on his roster.

What do you think is the value of Toffoli? Montour was traded for a first and Guhle, could Trouba be traded for a first and Nelson?

FWIW, LeBrun and Friedman each reported at different times last season leading up to the deadline that the Jets, needing to conserve salary to re-sign Laine and Connor and several other bottom 6 players (Copp, Roslovic included), would want a draft picks and prospects for Trouba since the Jets couldn't afford him and the others. When the Jets traded their only 1st rounder to NYR for Hayes, it made the desire for a replacement pick in 1st round logical. It's anyone's guess but I would suspect that the Sabres could offer their late 1st (San Jose's pick) and a prospect on an ELC (i.e. Nylander? Thompson?) and be as competitive as anyone else if they're willing to pay Trouba his reported $7M asking price.

As for Toffoli, many of the legit NHL insiders leading up to the deadline reported that Blake was looking for youth, speed and low-end salaries to help with their rebuild and shedding cap space. Toffoli was reportedly available for a 1st rounder close to the deadline but now that McLellan is on board and it sounds like the Kings want to forego any rebuild by keeping a lot more vets, Toffoli's price tag may be higher than reasonable. However, when you look at the LA defense and see how slow and old it is after Doughty (plus the hole left by Muzzin that hasn't been replaced), it didn't seem a stretch that McLellan may be lobbying for a veteran defenseman with some mobility. Whether Scandella or Bogosian appeal in that regard, who knows....but it's a theory.
