i don't see an issue with it, i think the trade actually helps both teams. buffalo adds 2 players that will help with depth and the Rangers clear 1 of the 2 contracts that they need to.
the retention on Scandella is nice, but not necessarily needed, especially since it is only for 1 year.

I am fine with the idea of the trade! There wasn’t enough done to the rest of the roster, we would be right where we were this year

If the Rangers don't need the cap space...they keep Smith and Names. Upcoming UFA Names can traded at TDL and get assets. I'm assuming Rangers miss the playoffs next season.
