Description
A minimal approach to the Pens off-season that keeps the team together by shifting significant salary in one trade. This trade would help both teams needs (Det needing G and D and Pit needing salary relief and a top 9 LW). Tatar would be an excellent value addition, and Mantha is a cheap addition to the trade due to him looking likely to be a bottom 6 winger, not the star he was once projected to be. But, he's a low risk/high reward addition who may yet surprise.

I certainly haven't addressed the Pens thin blue-line, beyond keeping it mostly together, even though they're probably currently over-performing and regression seems likely. But this team still has significant forward depth and prospects (Jarry, Wilson, Simon, Sundqvist, Sprong, Mantha, Guentzel) who could be traded during the season to add a D if required. Also, as great as Kessel's been, I'd be keen to get out from his long-term contract while he's playing well - so if two of Mantha, Sprong or Rust (or maybe Guentzel even though hes on the wrong side) emerge as top 9 scorers over the next couple years then I'd trade Kessel for D (or just for prospects and salary relief) in 2017-18. Otherwise this team seems well set-up right now and into the future, although pressure will come on the salary again once contracts like Rust's, Dumoulin's and Murray's come up for renewal.

You are joking saying that the red wings need a goalie right? They already have two and are looking to trade one. Plus they like Mantha who picked it up his second pro year

Clearly this dude doesn't know much about the wings....
I would give him the benefit of picking a team at random, but he clearly chose specific red wings players

Yeah, this was kinda a bad idea - Mrazek had a better season than I realised, although to be fair he really tanked down the stretch, is a bit of an unknown quantity and Det were only 17th in s% which isn't going to get you far. Fleury is a top 10 G on a reasonable contract and might be an upgrade depending on how Mrazek pans out, but yes teams like Toronto or Calgary make more sense.
