Description
Rebuilding the Oilers certainly won't be easy. Somehow despite years of favourable draft positions this team failed to build a deep prospect pool that could provide D, G and forward depth. However with tons of cap space, new management and the lure of playing with McDavid and Hall there might be some light at the end of a very long tunnel.

First up I propose trading Nuge for a top 4 D. Dumba is ready to step into that role and having 3 top 6 C's makes no sense for a team that is weak everywhere else.

Second I propose a rather dramatic trade with the Leafs (who might be convinced by a desire to shift veteran forwards and the lure of drafting a top blueliner - a luxury the Oil can't patiently wait for now). The trade I propose gives the Oil bottom 6 forward depth a significant lift, addressing another major weakness.

The third proposal is very speculative and maybe impossible - but this team is still going to need to sign UFA's to become competitive. Addressing a weak RW position I propose throwing a big contract at underrated Kyle Okposo, and an expensive but short contract for Bryan Campbell - giving the D a couple years of his veteran experience while Klefbom, Dumba, Davidson and Nurse mature. Otherwise I propose a little (only a little) patience to see if players like Talbot or Lander can prove themselves within a deeper team designed to roll four quality forward lines (hence Eberle being on the 3rd with Bozak) and three decent D pairings.

Soooo. You just paid Kyle Okposo 7mil, an equally poor defensive player(actually worse as he has defense and still is a liability), less productive in his career and has made a career off Johnny T while Ebs has produced with multiple C's and outproduced him. Okposo also offers a slight bonus in physical play. He generally avoids it also.

Komaorav a 4th liner lmao. In what universe?

Hopkins for Dumba lmao!! A 22 year old who's played #1 C in the NHL with a ton of NHL experience for a 21 year old #5 dman. You just traded 50 points away for 25. Great trade!!

I like your enthusiasm, but I think those are weak criticisms.

    1. You don't score 70pts these days riding on somebodies coat tales. Okposo is a great player and the Oil need to bring some additional help in urgently. Theres nobody better available than Okposo.
    2. The Oil need depth badly, and if they could play Komarov on the 4th then this team would be in the enviable position of rolling 4 lines (rather than the current 2)- thats the whole point of sending a 1st to Toronto for depth players.
    3. This is a ridiculous comment. The jury is still out on whether Nuge is a 1C or 2C, he's certainly not dominant. Dumba is a rising blueliner already able to play top 4 and almost certainly destined to be a top pair D. I'm not sure Minny would go for this, at this point I predict Dumba will be the better player albeit only slightly.

You are overpaying to Tor. 4oa alone this year is more that what you're getting.
RNH for Dumba is okay, if you're paying that much for his potential. At best, next year, he's a second pairing RHD who needs a solid partner.
Signing Okposo hurts your future cap, it's one of the reasons the Oilers should trade RNH or Eberle.

I disagree about overpaying to Toronto - a 4th overall pick is in no way guaranteed to be a quality player - Reinhart is a 4th overall too and he's starting to project as a 3rd pairing D, maybe a 2nd pairing D if lucky. Bozak and Komarov are very good depth players, and Kapanen is still highly rated. At this point Yakupov is a bust and Reinhart is a disappointment. And yes Okposo creates longterm cap issues, but hes almost certainly going to be easy to trade if it comes to that - you have to admit this team looks much much better than the current Oil team.
