Traded back without Retention (therefore removing the 1.2 the leafs retained before) Phil the thrill has proven he is worth more than $8 mil so if he is gonna be traded by Pittsburgh they can do that easily at $8 mil and get a little extra from Toronto by doing a paper transaction in which Phil is traded back to Pittsburgh without retention, obviously being paid more decreases his value but I doubt it’s by more than a 2nd and a 3rd, Pens fans do you think leafs gotta add more or no?

I think what you are proposing is legal but I would need to check the cba. Since the trade to us pr to pens required no retained salary during those trades It should be allowed.

Although I’m not positive as it does seem like cap circumvention.

Do the pens do it? I’m not sure, sounds like they are looking to move him. Then the cost of a 2nd and 3rd for 1.2m is a hefty price too.

I don't see the point in taking on the extra 1.2M for the Penguins. The biggest sell on Kessel to other teams is that they can get a PPG player for less than 7M, why throw that away?
