Description

Personally, I would rather take back a bad contract in Phaneuf than to pay Arizona a 1st to take Marleau.
Tanev's value is not as high with only one year left on his deal. Leafs pay the 2nd for Vancouver to retain a bit.
I don't think Johnsson & Kappy can command $3m+ on bridge deals considering they've only have 1 decent season each.

If they retained half of Dion's salary, maybe. And Zaitsev for Tanev is a loss for the Leafs, nevermind the 2nd.

I can see the Kings and Leafs doing a straight swap for Marleau & Phaneuf, but if the Kings have to retain on Phaneuf in exchange for Marleau, Toronto would have to add a prospect or a pick.

Marleau isn’t a bad player, phaneuf is. He is also signed longer.

I think LA would have to retain a bit for Leafs to take on that extra year. Phaneuf is pretty well buy-out proof, so 2 years vs 1 year gives Phaneuf less value IMO.
