I don't think the Canucks care about late first round picks now. They are better to keep Stecher at his cap hit and the fact that he is a local guy. I think he is a better defenceman then Johnson. The Canucks will add D in the UFA market this year. Go after someone like Myers or Gardiner.

no, no and no.

Jarry can return more than a 2nd.
Nope on the JJ trade. A. they like Almeida, B, they are keeping their 1st, C. they wouldn't give up both and retain on a salary. You are high as a kite if you think they would ever do that. As a matter of fact, he might go to VAN for future considerations, no salary retained. Because the Market for UFA defense is insane, and they aren't going to be able to draft anyone who can start immediately. Furthermore, they will need 2 cost controled LD.
No way they give up Rust for a bust.

It is a strong package for Stecher, but he is solid offensive dman on a cost controlled contract. It also alleviates the JJ contract sans $1m per year. It's a lot to give up, but we atleast patch a hole in the defense.

I don't know about Puljujarvi just yet. You could very well be right, but he is 20 years old and has had awful deployment in the 80 or so games he played on a bad team. I love Rust and don't want to lose him but I think it's worth a gamble on a cheap, young player that has potential to score 30 a year. Tried to time it so the Rust contract would end the same time Puljujarvi did.

I can never gauge goalie compensation since it is such an unpredictable position. I have always said he is poised to be an NHL starter, but he is logjammed right now and his deal turns into a 1-way deal this season so one of him or DeSmith is going.

I know I know, I haven't seen many Canucks fans offer to move him but I really like him and think he is a much better option than any UFA, at least for the Pens. Vancouver definitely needs to add more D rather than get rid of any
