Nvm I misread what you said. I thought you meant hat 11.5 was not enough for Artemi from Florida and that the Islanders could beat that with 12 million, which would have been a false statement.
However, paying Panarin 12 million isn’t wise. He is elite, not generational. If McDavid is getting 12.5 mil, then giving Panarin that much is bs.
He is worth about 9.75-10.25 million imo, but with the inflated cost for highly coveted UFAs he will get near 11.5, which would not be totally awful, but not great either. I think 10.75-11.25 million should be the goal for teams looking to sign him, and 12 million+ is just a reach.

I agree with you to an extent, but players like Panarin don't get to July 1st very often, and IMO depending on the players age it's worth overpaying for elite talent. I do think Lou Lamoriello will give him a crazy offer somewhere in the 12.25-12.75 AAV range.
