Description
Year 1

Hoping for the escalator to be used and get us at least a 74M Cap.

Shaw takes a cheaper contract than market value to play in Chicago.

Hossa moved to 3rd line, taking pressure off him to score but still playing alongside an exceptional set-up man in Schmaltz. That line has young speed and skill, but also a physical presence and great two way play from Hoss, the scoring would come.

Hartman focuses solely on playing Shaw’s defensive game, creating the Desy-Krug-Shaw look-a-like line that dominated the 2015 playoffs.

Shaw can now stay in the Top 6 focusing on his offensive game, not needed in a bottom 6 checking line like he was last year.

If Kempny proves to be a reliable, strong puck moving defensemen, the back end looks very solid.

Don't rule out the Hawks (shockingly) bringing Rosy back AGAIN. This would solely be for Kempny, helping his fellow Czech defensemen with the transition to North American hockey. Tikhonov and Anisimov were very beneficial last year for Panarin, easing him into the system, especially in his first few months in the new world. Rosy would rarely ever play, barring any injuries. Pokka will start in the AHL, but may certainly find his way onto the roster midway through the year.

If the cap is substantially lower than this, quite simply Shaw doesn't come back. Hossa stays on the top line with Johnny, and the bottom 6 lacks depth as it did last year. There would be plenty of ELC's playing in those bottom two lines.

Really like this team and the idea of Hossa on the third line. Worked really well in the playoffs alongside Kruger and Ladd. What do you think about playing Schmaltz as the LW on that third line and sliding Kruger in between them during the regular season? Could alleviate some of the pressure on Schmaltz to carry the heavy defensive load of a C in Qs system and play a bit more free with two solid defensive forwards on his line. I think Kruger has shown promise in his offensive game as of late if you put him in between two strong offensive players.

Calling up Hinostroza to play the last center role between some combination of Desjardins/Hartman/Motte/Baun could be effective if Q can shelter them. Just a thought. Let me know what you think.

I do like that idea. Just depends if Schmaltz can make that move, he seems to be a natural center man because of his set up ability. But I definitely agree that Kruger has more offensive ability than people think, putting Hossa and an athletic winger with him would be interesting to see what he could do. I would still prefer that winger be Motte over Schmaltz bc Motte is a natural wing and I would like to see what those two can do in their natural positions early on. If one seems to excel on the wing, I could see them playing up top with Johnny in some time. Because both Panik and Shaw have been successful as third liners

Very true. Motte also fits well to make a great defensive line. Hope they get a chance at it sometime this year.
