Brodie was worth 1.9 WAR last season, compared to Justin Faulk's 0.1 WAR. Over the last three seasons, Brodie is 3.6 and Faulk is 0.8. This is such an unbalanced trade that Treliving definitely shouldn't make, so naturally I fully expect to see Bob or Friedge announce it tomorrow.

https://evolving-hockey.com/

It's a pretty widely accepted and publicly accessible wins above replacement (WAR) model, typical star players come in around 2-3 WAR, and replacement level (WAR=0) suggests that you'd get the same(ish) results with any given 13th F / 7th D / AHL level player. Essentially, Faulk is not very good anymore, and Brodie is very good, at least when you look beyond counting stats like G, A , and +/-.

It's not perfect, but if you're gonna summarize a player's value into one number for quick comparison, EV-Hockey's WAR is as good as it gets.

I am looking at that site right now and Brodie's WAR is 1.9

Not that I think it matters at all as some really really good players have some Low "WAR" ratings. Maybe this advanced stat is too advanced for me.

Flames are looking at adding to the forward group, while clearing some cap space. They are definitely not exchanging a D man that is questionable in the d zone, for a more expensive, questionable d man in the d zone. Flames would keep Brodie over trading for Faulk. I highly doubt they would have much intent of re-signing either player unless it was a good contract. I expect both of these d man to go to free agency and get the best deal they can.
