Description
OK, Joki's gone. I'm now getting excited to see what Nylander can do. I'm convinced that trade won't be settled until a decade from now becasue of age/positional issues, but it happened and I'm moving on.

Nylander was the #8OA pick. He has talent, no one's argued that. Let's set him up for success. Show him how much fun it can be playing next to Toews/Kane and really get him some confidence.

I still want to sign Perlini. He still has untapped up side that (I believe) will show itself once we gets some consistent linemmates. I'm hopeful that there's an agreement sooner rather than later. He should realize that being traded...is worse than being on a line with Debrincat/Strome. His next contracct will be a much larger one if he can produce. Where better than CHI?

That 3rd line is for Dach. Dach might be 6'4" 200 lbs, but he's 18 years old. Giving him guys to his left and right that can more than hold their own is important. I actually think he makes the team this year. Stan's saying that it's 100% up to Colliton, but I think there are a few meetings where "suggestions" get made. Stan would love to have Dach make the team and shed some of those naysayers questioning his pick.

The 4th line is some real grit and PKers. CHI needed to get better in that department and I think Stan did a pretty job...especially on the back end, but getting Carpenter was a solid move too.

That 5th line is what I'm using as potential swaps. These are the (3) players I think are on the bubble. Sikura's probably in that mix too.

As for the trade...I'm not sure why something hasn't already happened. My guess is that CHI doesn't want to take back Condon, but it might be a deal point for OTT. They have (3) goalies and know Stan's probably looking to shed AA's Cap hit. I honestly don't think the picks are as big a deal as the money...because it's Melnyk.

Now going forward...Stan's work is hardly over. He has a lot of optionality which is a tremendous asset. (2) #1 goalies on 1 year UFAs...A 65point defenseman on a 1 year UFA with his replacement a handful of games away and now reportedly going to Rockford instead of London which I've been saying needs to happen for a long time. That optionality is critical...you can't lose a 65 point Dman for nothing. The TDL returns are real and hard choices need to get made.

Additional Details:
What does Melnyk love??? MONEY! This move sheds a $3M goalie that isn't going to play and get's a #2C/#3C with a cap hit of $9.1M. For anyone not thinking AA is worth the money...it'll only net out to be $1M a year difference...he's worth a lot more than $1M a year.

This post is fantastic! I 110% agree with you. AA needs to go and I also love our goalie situation. I think Crawford probably retires at the end of the year and we resign Lehner. Gus gets traded at the TDL and we call up Boqvist. He is a fantastic Dman. He's the next EK65. I still don't like the Nylander thing but whatever. It is what it is. I really like the addition of Calvin DeHaan. I think Kubalik makes the team and Perlini won't be a Blackhawk by December 1.

This is really well thought out. I think the hawks expect Nylander to make the team, otherwise they would've kept Joker at least until De Haan returns from injury. They wouldn't move an NHL D for a rookie to play in the AHL while filling the line up with Dahlstrom/Koekkoek.

Moving Gustafsson at the deadline and calling up Boqvist makes a ton of sense. Heck, moving one of the goalies at the deadline makes a ton of sense with Delia in the system capable of backing up. This could be a season that the hawks contend and grow for the future simultaneously.

Love the post, but do you think that if the Hawks package Perlini and AA they won’t have to take back Condon? This will make a space for another prospect, like the 5th line, to jump into the top six. Just a thought.

I think you're probably right. And that's the crux of this whole trade. The devil's in the details. Stan knows what Perlini's looking for. If it's a "crazy" contract...then I'd be for that. The other part might be that OTT doesn't see Perlini the same way. Dorion might be pressed to shed that $3M cost. It's a tricky substitution. Adding Perlini and Dropping Condon...means OTT gets a far better package talent wise. Keeping in Condon and Dropping Perlini means OTT is playing the cap/salary game. Historically OTT has had mixed trades. Good thoughts!
