Probily won't happen. His contract doesn't work for colorado. We got young RHD coming up and only really need someone for this season back there. Odds are he would get picked off in the expansion draft anyways if this were to happen. We will most likely protect Jost since its 7,3,1.

Big time pass, Risto is a terrible defender and would be relegated to the 3rd pairing on the right hand side and wont get a lick of pp Time With makar and Girard running the pp units

Once you clip his ice time, probably by at least half if he was on the Avs, which he uses to pad his offensive stats, 1st among all Sabre’s players last year, he will look even worse put on a good team with deeper score taking away his pp time. Cant defend and if he doesnt have the ice time to make up for his lack of defensive ability to produce offense,

Just a really bad fit on the Avs for a flawed player

I get where you're coming from and those are all fair points. But just so you're aware Dahlin took over as the the main PPQB after Jan. 1 and after Montour was acquired at the deadline Risto barely got any PP time at all, so his stats weren't exactly padded due to the PP.

He definitely is a liability Defensively, but if used properly (mainly offensive zone starts) he has huge offensive upside. He's a RHD who will get you 30 points easily (that's taking into consideration him getting no PP time) and if there was ever an injury to one of your PPQBs he'd be able to fill in without missing a beat.

If the the relationship with the Sabres wasn't so fractured and if they didn't acquire 3 new RHD in the last calendar year, I would actually be a fan of the Sabres keeping him and using him in the offensive zone. If deployed properly he certainly has the offensive ability to be an asset.

That coupled with the fact the Jost got demoted and seemed to fall out of favor with the Colorado front office; I thought it made sense for a change of scenery for both players.

Risto was the Sabres total icetime leader last year, lead in 5v5 ice time, and had the most PP time for Dmen. Regardless of in season adjustments, in a complete season, he still got 1D minutes (for whatever reason)

30 points might be a stretch. when you drop his 5v5 ice time down by 1/3 to 1/2. He has value in his offensive ability but you arent trading for him to be a top 4 dman, and thats why I would never want to see do a Jost vs risto deal bc Jost still holds more value with his potential vs you know what Risto is and what he isnt and you dont move Jost for a guy you have to shelter his minutes on the 3rd pair so his lack of defensive ability isnt exposed and costs yo games or worse a playoff season (Jake Gardiner 2.0)

and you the point of demoted and out of favour with the front office is 100% incorrect, he wasnt demoted, he was sent down for a conditioning assignment and management group is super high on him, especially with how he elevated his game in the 2nd half and in the playoffs.

fair enough. The only reason I choose Risto for Jost is because he's definitely under performed considering his draft status, but some prospects take longer then others. Teams tend to over value there own prospects hoping they'll pan out. The Sabres certainly did that with Risto. They had the option to trade him for Taylor Hall a few years back and really screwed the pooch on that one.

Also I don't think you should just look at the whole year as far as PP goes in regards to Risto. Trends matter especially if they will continue in perpetuity. Clearly there was a changing of the guard with Dahlin eating up all the PP time so I don't know how you can just brush that off.
