Him and his agents are greedy ****s, who turns down 8x11??

Him and his agent are so obsessed with the Matthews contract.

IF I was a Toronto fan I’d want Marner gone

Hindsight is 20/20, but Dubas has a part of the blame here. If he had signed Marner to an extension one year earlier, the value would probably have been about right. Keep the largest contract, Matthews, for the end, so that it doesn't serve as a comparable. After this year, I bet GMs will consider signing top RFAs early.

It amazes me that players like Aho view themselves as worthy of 8.45 a season, or Larkin of 6.1, when their skills are roughly identical to these young Leafs stars.

The problem is taxes though. Ahos 845 is roughly equal to a 10/11 from marner. as much as we americans hate income tax, canada has it worse

Not even close. The extra tax in “Ontario” (not all provinces are taxed the same. Think of provinces like the American equivalent of states where all the people live in igloos) is about 900k then figure for about 250k in jock taxes. Then cost of living. Which might be fairly good in carolina but with the Canadian dollar being low it works out alright here. There is a few really good articles that go over just what comes off of an nhl salary. After taxes, jock tax, escrow and agent commission they are walking out with pennies on the dollar. This idea of “if I just subtract the income tax” just doesn’t hold true. Especially when you consider he signed that contract in Quebec...

I actually saw a really good break down between Kopitar and Benn, lowest tax state to highest. Now of course benn did make more. The only thing that really caught my eye was just how little they were both bringing in.
