Frolík is too old to fit into Detroit's rebuild so there is no way they give up a 3rd for him. Plus Franzen's contract is in it's final year and won't cost Detroit any cap so there is no reason for Detroit to do any of this.

Detroit typically doesn't throw their young kids into situations. Frolik could be a mentor and shelter letting the young kids play weaker competition and gain better confidence before moving up the line-up. Detroit could then flip Frolik at the deadline when teams will have more cap and get a minimum 2nd for him. Lately, lesser players than Frolik who can't play up and down the lineup have gotten more than a 2nd at the deadline.

First Detroit isn't go to spend assets for a player who doesn't directly help them get back to being a contender. Second look a Detroit's roster I'm assuming you haven't because if you had you wouldn't have used mentoring to support your theory. Detroit already has 5 forwards overpaid and over 30. I'm sure a deal could be made if Calgary wants to take Neilson or Abdelkader back with them.

Unrealted to the trade being proposed, 2 of Detroits top prospects are Czechs and unlike any of detroits veterans so is Frolik. Just because you are a veteran player that doesnt necessarily make you a mentor, Zadina and Hronek might not have the best english and having a vet there that can teach them and help them adjust makes a lot of sense.
