Paying him that money would kinda confirm that the NHL is going to start paying top RFA like UFAs. Rantanen won't get a an offer like that from any other team. His only leverage is with holding his services his services from the Avs. The game of chicken probably....8,5m might be "fair" or 10.9m. Who blinks first.

why would he accept less, over 2 seasons he has 171 pts in 155 games, mckinnon signed that deal before he was good his career high at the time was 63 pts in his rookie season, in his contract season he only got 52 pts, they have the cap space and if you look at what he has done compared to marner he fully deserves it.

From what his agent said it won’t be playing if he isn’t making 10.9m x 6. The two sides may be far apart but he think a deal gets done when the season starts.
