These are good trade deadline moves for a team going into the playoffs that hopes to be a title contender and needs depth to offset injuries (potential or actual). They make no sense for the Kings, who aren't going to get near the playoffs this year. Blake and McLellan should use this year to audition ALL of the young defensemen (in particular): Brickley, LaDue, MacDermid, Roy, Ryan, Walker, maybe even give Clague 9 games for some experience. This is a developmental year for Los Angeles, and Vanek and Hutton would just take up spots that would be better occupied by aspiring newcomers.
