Description

We need to face the fact.
Johnson is barely a 7th D at this point in his career. It would take a massive sweetner for a team to take on $3.25 mil of cap for the next 4 years. This isn't a short term thing, the team is stuck with him for at least 2-3 years (assuming they eventually buy him out)
-Retaining more than 10% on him makes no sense if we have to add in sweetneers.

Waive him this season.
Worst case we get some cap relief.

This leaves us with around $744k in cap space for a call up.
Czuzman makes $700k and he would be the ideal callup on D.

So you are saving $375K to have career AHLer Czuczman on the roster as opposed to sad, but actually an NHLer, Johnson.

I'd rather trade DeSmith for a 3rd (or whatever) and play Jarry. Saves $575K and you get a pick.

But it doesn't get the ever Darth Johnson off the active roster...

The penguins don't need to buy him out.
The troll costs on here don't mean anything.
It does not take a 1st to get rid of a 2 million dollar cap dump.
Nor does it take a top prospect.
They will dump a goalie or Chad R who isn't ever going to get playing time anyway, or a winger like simon who they don't need anyway.
