Doubt Petey gets that much. Toronto, L.A and San Jose are proof no team should pay players 11M per year.

He could easily get that much... Young RFAs keep getting more and more money. If Mathews got 11.6 for 5 years, Petterson could easily get 11+ on a longer deal. Not to mention that the NHL is getting a new TV deal and Seattle is paying their huge entry fee, the cap will be going up more than usual. Expecting to pay less than 11 million is unrealistic if you wound to sign him long term.

I doubt he'll get 11 mil. It also depends on where Vancouver is at though progression wise. If they can prove themselves to be amongst the top 25% of teams, maybe he takes a team friendly deal to win now (a la the Boston Bruins). If Vancouver regressed then he can do whatever he wants. One thing is for certain thoigh, if he takes that 11 mil you can kiss any long term success good bye. As we've seen, no who has a player making over 10 mil has won a cup and I don't expect to see that any time soon. Those contracts are terrible for teams.

Not sure how closely you watch Patterson but he appears to be the real deal and his arrival has kind of changed the fortunes of the Canucks. Great playmaker but also good goal scorer.

I watch Petterson a lot. I'm a big fan of his actually and love his skill set. In a normal scenario, yes he could easily get 11 million on the market. The reason he likely doesn't, at least in short term, is because given the success of teams like the Bruins, Blues, Capitals, Vegas who all have guys making less than 10 mil (Bruins no one more than 7.25) and will preach the short term deal at lesser AAV to win now. That's the ultimate goal. If teams who are paying these ridiculous salaries keep failing than that will make any GM pause and not pay their star as much as they should arguably be making.
