The staff on that second line doesn't really change other than flipping Kappy and Johnsson and while having a lesser C. What does it accomplish exactly?

That might not be a bad idea. I feel like Nylander has a better chance of developing into a reliable 2 way C. Matthews is absolutely terrible defensively , one of the worst in the league among top 6 centers. He still provides great value because of his elite scoring ability 5 v 5 but true cup contenders have a top 6 center that are just as good in their own zone.

Bruins - Bergeron, blues - oreilly , pens - Crosby, caps - backstrom, Hawks - toews, Kings-kopitar

I think Nylander is presently being under utilized as his natural position is centre ice and he is more of a set up man. He was dominant in a world championship a couple of years ago as a centre iceman. This may also be an upgrade for Leafs on centre ice defence coverage compared to Matthews. This also frees up Matthews to just be the sniper and goal scorer.

Centers are usually playmakers. And make team mates better. Mathews is a goal scorer and could benefit from less responsibility. Could be the next Stamkos. That all being said Nylander is not two way center.

I think if ever one was so inclined to load up the Leafs the optimal line would be Tavares at centre with Nylander at right wing and Matthews on the left. Nylander is the best on the team at zone entries and Tavares and Matthews are both elite goal scorers. That line would be nuts.
